former NFL player Greg Hardy just won his 3rd amateur fight

I know people win spin this as an 'A level athlete' but frankly Hardy is not 'A' level anymore, he washed out of the league years ago.

We aren't ever gonna see an 'A level' athlete in the octagon, because when they are in their prime they are getting paid millions in other sports, they only come to the UFC when they are washed up and at B or C level.

He's A-level compared to pretty much anyone else in the HW division right now.

NFL player Mitirone beat Slice, Beast,Fedor & Nelson but lost to his buddy Schaubi.

Mitrione went undrafted for the NFL. And literally made exactly 4 tackles his entire "career". He didn't deserve to be there.

lol

{<huh}

The guy machida fought was a former NFL player.
Anders went undrafted and became a good MMA fighter in a very short amount of time. He beat Lyoto imo

Hardy is 10X the athlete that Anders or Mitrione are

Mitrione was a great athlete by MMA standards, but far below average by NFL standards.

Idk but his Cowboys careers started off well on the field but ended poorly, with a total of 3 sacks in his last 9 games. Was pretty obvious towards the end that he was a liability on the field, not a good run defender and couldn't get after the QB anymore.

Compare that with strip club shooter Pacman Jones who kept playing because he was contributing on the field.

pacman plays with a team notorious for having a bunch of felons and wife beaters, and hes exceptionally talented even by "a level" athlete standards

Hopefully his next fight will not be against another short fat guy who runs away

let's hope he becomes a successful fighter. an actual A level athlete in the ufc would be something amazing to see
I have doubts that Dana would sign Hardy for PR reasons.

Was he fighting a MW? That dude looked tiny compared to him.

Almost as bad as what Mitrione vs. Chael will look like when they meet in Bellator's "heavyweight" tournament.

True. The sad thing is that I can honestly see Chael winning that fight.

yeah who knows, but the ufc has its fair share of woman beaters. rumble, michael johnson, abel trujillo and others

Hardy has not shown any real talent and he's fighting guys that literally have no business in MMA. Amateur MMA is truly terrible. Its closer to Toughman.

Regardless of the HW divisions shallow nature MMA is a grapplers sport. If you're not good at grappling then the odds are low that you will succeed long term.

Also nothing Hardy has done requires A level athletic sbility nor has he shown it.

Athleticism only gets you so far in MMA because of the grappling as a strength and speed equalizer. What matters is how you deal with good grapplers.

The idea that MMA was going to quickly turn into some kind of master of all tournament has not materialised. Most successful fighters are either great grapplers or really good at escaping grappling exchanges. The rest of their skills are merely adjuncts to their base.

Grapplers rule fighting. Royce proved it and now many othhers continue to.

Having great athleticism can also hinder your technical development and decision making.

We were promised great athlete domination years ago and it hasn't happened. There's more than enough failed ball sport athletes that would make more doing MMA than working at The Home Depot and they're just not interested.

People choose sports they can be good at. Athleticism doesn't transfer equally to all sports and fighting is entirely different than ball sports.

He is a dirtbag but hey the world is shit, life aint precious and its all about what entertains me now!

#hedonist!

Even in boxing, athleticism is not some superpower that determines the winner. All the top guys Maidana has beaten were superior athletes ...based on the ball sports fanbois criteria that is. He even gave Mayweather hell, forcing a rematch. That shouldn't even be possible if ball sports-type athleticism was such a factor.

Mods should instantly wasteland these A Level Athlete threads. They are ridiculous and completely off-topic.

Hahaha yeah Mitrione is a grappling genius...yet he destroyed Fedor. Mma heavyweight division is a joke and basically anyone has a chance to be successful.
