EA Earns Most Downvoted Comment In Reddit History

I dont know if some people really dont understand whats going on or if they just dont want to admit that they are getting played and spent money on this stuff but hopefully people keep speaking up about whats going on.

I think people are starting to wise up and hopefully can vote with their wallets to bring about change. That's the only thing that will persuade the game companies. Anything other than economic consequences (ie appeal to fairness, morals etc) won't be effective.

I heard the game is being investigated by 4 European countries for linking Loot boxes to gambling, hopefully this brings change to the gaming industry , shit like this preys on peoples compulsion to progress and get addicted to stuff.

I literally have no idea how people can continue to quote me and apparently have no idea what I wrote.

Point out where I said loot boxes aren't addictive. But there's a difference between something being addictive, and someone being an addict. Diablo II was addictive and had no loot boxes.

Shit, WOW has destroyed marriages, lives and relationships. You know why? Because Blizzard has built mechanics of the game around psychological behaviors to get people to keep playing. For a minority of people, this can be life altering. So what do we do? Demand Blizzard and other devs stop designing addictive games? Do we stop Bethesda from developing Elder Scrolls games?

And that's the tip of the iceberg. Caffeine, sugar, alcohol, pornography, and a wealth of other things have addicts and have largely detrimental effects on people even in limited amounts. Areall of these things horrible? Should they be illegal? Are companies that make sugar evil? Is Starbucks a horrible company for peddling addictive, sugary drinks? Are you contributing to these evil corporate schemes if you eat a Twinkie?

Of course not because personal choice and responsibility exists. I love cheeseburgers, but I don't eat them every day. If some people eat them and other food more often than they should, then they have have a heart attack and die young, whos fault is that? According to the logic of this thread, it's Burger Kings fault for preying on the inclinations of the obese.

Shit, we live in a society that literally sells sticks of poison that cause cancer for people to inhale into their lungs. But loot boxes? That's what we complain about? Our society is overflowing with addictive shit we don't need. But loot boxes attracts your ire?

More than that, what exactly is your solution to this horrible loot box holocaust? I'd be interested to hear it, because most of the things I pointed out are more addictive and more dangerous if not lethal. So what standard of practice would you want to impose on loot boxes that shouldn't be put on alcohol or caffeine or cigarettes?

The blogs you posted don't contradict anything I said. One point they did make was about any real money systems in a game should entail an M rating. That's an interesting point and I'd have to ponder.

I'm glad you at least noticed one of the key criticisms in the situation... they are pushing gambling on children. Good job gold star. The rest of your post was pointless self pleasuring that didn't address my post. Apparently you don't understand the nature of voting with your wallet that you quoted or you would realize all your examples are covered in what I stated.

You covered nothing I said. You avoided every point I made and all of it was in direct response to your post. The problem is you have no worthwhile counter argument.

Goddamn, the reviews are even saying the single player campaign is average at best. That was honestly exciting me as much as anything else. How do you drop the ball this bad on such a huge IP?

Dude that game is average at best you can tell they put the minimum amount of effort into it. It was made to make money off of RNG loot boxes the hole game is based off of it.

Well, to be fair, it's a heavily focused MP game. I don't think a deep SP campaign was ever to be expected.

Oh, I'm cross-posting the shit out of this:

Shit like this is the reason it's hard to take gamers complaints seriously sometimes.

"Need" doesn't apply. You don't need games. But you enjoy them. Loot boxes are the same principle. Some people Don't give a shit, while others like having the option.

Fucking "preying on people's psychological a behavior"? Goddamn it. Stop. That's some of the dumbest shit ever spoken. If someone can't resist buying a goddamn loot box they have serious issues.

Sounds like you haven't played it and you're going off the tweets that were released at launch by people who hadn't played the game. There's no "real ending" afterword. There's a tiny epilogue that's fairly meaningless. There's no "grind" it's just typical busywork after the main game is finished. Similar to the Arkham games.

Um, that language is one hundred percent accurate though. You may think intentionally preying on gambling addiction isn't a big deal, but a lot of other people disagree.

They're hiring people with backgrounds in casino games that are experts in manipulating addiction to make these games.

It's absolutely not an accident that nearly every mobile game uses a slot machine based micro transaction system. Or the fact that the trend is moving to pc and console games.

These games are literally made using what we know about conditioning. Namely, intermittent reinforcement. Oooh just a couple bucks for another hit. Aw, you didn't win! Just a couple bucks for another hit buddeh!

They've tricked a generation of gamers into thinking that not only do pixels have value, they have so much value it's ok to pay and.not even get what you wanted. It's utterly absurd and indefensible.

They're trying to turn gaming into a giant elaborate skinner box. That should concern people.

Serious question. What society have you lived in your entire life? Gambling addiction is real, and yet we have lottery tickets on at every gas station and convenience store across the country. Is this wrong?

Like I said earlier, the point everyone keeps avoiding, alcohol, cigarettes, sugar, caffeine, etc are ALL addictive and more detrimental to your health than a loot box that may contain a skin. Companies have always tried to use a psychological hook on you, I realized that the first time I saw a hot chick in a bikini in goddamn gum commercial.

Gambling addiction is real, so why are people ranting against loot boxes and not the casinos?

Game shave been implementing ways to get you addicted for decades now. Shit, I remember the Diablo 2 preview in Computer Games Magazine where the dev was talking about the "kill/reward" mechanic that kept people playing. Why do you think leveling up in a bliizzard game is so rewarding? (DING!).

Loot boxes havent had as many addicts as games in general. So why rant about loot boxes instead of games themselves? Far more peoples lives have been "ruined" by wow than goddamn loot boxes. Seriously, has anyones life ever been ruined by a loot box mechanic?

Anyway, games have been addicting and attracting addicts for a long time now. Why are loot boxes worse?

Again, how are loot boxes worse than the games themselves as far as getting people addicted? Do you honestly think people buy Overwatch just because of loot boxes?

Most people play games to relax and take their mind of the day its really starting to get worrying when more and more games that are coming out are clearly just made to hook and make as much money off people as they can, its seriously affecting the quality of the games. People know all that stuff you keep bringing up is bad for you so I don't know why you keep up with it, it doesn't add anything to the argument you are just bringing up obvious things that everyone knows. "Hey this business practice is taking advantage of people and making it hard to enjoy"-some people online, "Dont you know smoking is bad for you"-bob gray, "yes we know but that is not what we are talking about"

So because other similar shitty things are going on in other industries, that makes this ok?

[<diva2]

No, nobody is buying games just for loot boxes. But they're intentionally attaching an addictive gambling model to almost everything in gaming right now. It's even worse than real gambling, because there's no chance to actually win something with tangible value.

Also mmos are a terrible example to use. They're pioneers in adding these addictive models to gaming. They were the first genre in gaming to apply what we know about addiction to trick people into gambling.

These games are often targeted towards teens that have no idea how dangerous gambling can be. There is a MASSIVE push going on right now, to force this model where every game you buy is an infinite time and money sink.

It's absolutely a negative for gamers, and it WILL become a standard across all types of gaming, unless we throw an absolute shit fit every time they try to pull this.

How do you keep reading and missing the point?

The point isnt that its OK, its that if you care about addiction, then games themselves are worse than loot boxes. Theres more than one type of valuable or currency. Time is one of them. Sucking up 12 hours of peoples activity day in and day out over several months or even years does far more damage than blowing 1000 bucks on loot boxes.

Do you really not understand this? Games are more addictive than loot boxes. Theyve addicted more people than loot boxes and theyve done more damage to peoples lives than loot boxes.

As for the cigs, caffiene, etc, again the point is that if you really cared about peoples addictions, why not focus on where addictions cause the most damage? But you care less about peoples addictions and the harm they cause as much as you care about complaining. Thats why your standards are inconsistent and make no sense.

"Can you believe these loot boxes? Theyre addictive!"

"Games have addicted people for decades and been far more detrimental and harmful to people lives countless times"

"....
Loot boxes!"

Is there even a single example of a loot addictions somehow ruining someones life? I literally did a google search and found nothing. If you're gonna prop up some notion of lives being put in shambles due to something, its best to have at least one example of it happening in the history of ever.

uh....that makes them a good example for me to use. If you understood my point. Which you dont.

Because you are not making a point you just keep saying these things are and have been hurting people for longer so why dont you bitch about them instead of loot boxes.

So because we have so many shitty and horrible things exposed to us we should just let gaming become just as bad, fuck that and fuck you buddeh

.....

Again you miss the point.

Gaming is already bad if loot boxes are worth complaining about for the damage they cause. Gaming is much, much worse than loot boxes.

But now loot boxes are part of the core gaming experience, I dont even know why you are defending this shit you are a idiot
