This guy is legit...

Tavares is for sure the best fighter Choi has faced, and the best grappler. I've only seen Choi's UFC fights. How's his grappling, and when was it last tested? Good TDD?

His TDD and ability to scramble was very good in DEEP, but those guys were generally his size and the wrestling/grappling level isn't UFC caliber. He switched to team MAD to step up his wrestling/grappling game, which is a good idea IMO.

So you've seen none of his fights in DEEP.
Are you talking about his
fight with the can of tomatos?
Or the one against the can
of baked beans?

Taking shots from obiya
& Maruyama doesn't show me
how you'd handle the hands of
a power puncher who made it
into the UFC by KOing people.

I'm a fan of jmma. But look at
the records of the people he's
fought, dude. 3 or 4 of them
haven't even fought since
fighting choi. Do some research

Btw, it's not like he was
crushing each of these trash cans
in under a minute... he had a battle
with obiya... who was his most
experienced & dangerous
Opponent. (Fought melendez &
firmino)

Tavares is the PERFECT test for such a heavy-handed prospect. He's got that chinny chin chin, but he's also got that nasty, aggressive ground game. Despite getting up there in age/miles, he's still one of the more athletic fighters.

Choi via KO rd 1

Choi by KO or Tavares by decision or maybe sub imo. Depends on Choi's tdd.

Oh great, DHC is gonna wreck him. I would have liked to see him starch Brandao first, but Tavares works too.

It's all relative. Choi was 18 when he went pro, those are the best fights for him to develop him and gauge his progress. We'll see where his TDD, wrestling, and grappling is at, I doubt his jitz is going to be black belt level, but it doesn't have to be, good enough to defend the sub attempts or create a sweep or scramble to get back to his feet.

You don't have to have a good record to be a heavy hitter. Plus, Choi showed in his DEEP fights the resiliency and grit you need to succeed at the higher levels.

That showed me he has the mental fortitude to overcome adversity, but what I like most about his game is his poise. He's so composed and relaxed when he's in the cage, he's said he got only nervous in the numerous street fights he's had when he was younger, in the cage its a far more controlled environment.

still so weird that choi looks like 16 n seems to crack like a WW or some shit.

Sick fight if it happens

Agreed.

Minimal chance this fight is booked for the TUF 23 Finale event. Card already has six fights on it, and rest assured it will be filled out with TUF contestants.

If this pairing is booked, more likely to be placed on the Vegas FN event the night before, the Sioux Falls FN event (IMO, most likely, and would probably be on the main card), or Chicago Fox event.

..which is why he's currently
climbing the ladder. I just haden't
seen him get clocked by someone
who excels with his strikes, particularly,
fists...

Tavares' chinnyness will rear its head again here. DHC makes the breakthrough to top contender with a 1st round KO.

Tavares is as legit as they come.

Ho Choi by KO rd 1.
