At first glance, I absolutely think that those on welfare should be drug tested.

On second thought, testing is quite expensive. Won't it just throw more taxpayer money into the issue?

On third though, how many folks on welfare really are seeking employment, but can't pass the company insisted drug test because they are addicted to painkillers from the injury they got at their last job...therefore, had to be put on welfare in the first place?

If you fail a drug test then you get the option of getting dropped from welfare or rehab, if you fail to complete rehab then you get dropped from welfare. If you complete welfare but fail a test afterwards you get a second chance at rehab and then if you fail after completing rehab a second time then you're done until you can pass like 3 drug tests.

Undecided. I dont think the drugs should be illegal in the first place, but then again, in principle I dont want tax money actually intended to help (whether it really does or not) going to people who are most likely continuing a vicious cycle. But then again testing also has been shown to be costly and not actually catch many people. Maybe if they could only administer it to those suspected of drug use, but then thatll turn into a discrimination lawsuit...

I'd be for it just as soon as the government does the following things

- The government looks into every church and if it is found that they have ever influenced the political viewpoints of their congregation, their tax exempt status is ended.

- All board members of any company receiving a government subsidy are drug tested, and they must account for every dime they are given weekly

- All members of government are randomly drug tested

The reason politicians get away with all the bullshit they do is because credulous, media damaged yahoos allow them to continue creating scapegoats in order to push people further into poverty while lining their pockets. I've been on welfare before, it was a shitty miserable experience. Having the odd beer or bit of weed was a small luxury that alleviated the horrible grind of living in poverty. I went 5 months without a bottle of Jack Daniels. It was nightmarish.
