I think there's a market for this line-pushing hysteria.
And, if you look at the reception to this stuff, it's not being eaten up by liberals supporting it, it's getting circulated by low information outrage porn circulators like
@klnOmega who can use it to shift the discussion away from substantive topics in which their side is realistically indefensible ("hey, sure this supply side economic agenda is opposed by every major economist and will hurt the economy and the middle and lower classes to the exclusive benefit of the rich, but look at this snowflake's fringe complaint!"). It's both a matter of distraction and of false equivocation.
