The Fountain is one of my all time favourite movies. There's just something about it that touches my soul and punches me in the stomach at the same time. The inability to accept our mortality... and the score, man the score is beautiful. Visually it's very appealing too and it's by far the best acting performance from Jackman in my opinion.

Give it another try.
You know back in '06 I had a choice to see the advance screening of either Casino Royale or The Fountain, I went to The Fountain. Had my hopes up to see what Aronofsky had next. Were also a fan of Jackman and Weisz. Was left disappointed that evening. I will try to give The Fountain another watch and hopefully enjoy it better. I did like Mother!

Definitely a different movie than Casino Royal haha.

I can see why someone wouldn't like it, but for me personally it strikes a chord that few other movies do. The symbolism, the acting, the music, the story. There's a certain rawness and honestly about it that makes it speciel to me. That comes across well in the on set interviews I've seen too:

It is certainly driven by its pathos though, so if someone doesn't vibe with it emotionally I can see why it wouldn't land. I hardly cared for Jackman before I saw the movie, but it changed my perspective on him. Between The Fountain, Prisoners and Logan he's an excellent actor.

One of my favorite movies.
Mother is a bit on the nose for me, but I enjoyed it.
