Dana White: "Ngannou Took The Last Two Weeks Off To Go To France; Nobody Knew Why He Did It"

That is something that can, at the very least, be modified. You don't need to carry around THAT much muscle to still be crazy destructive when you're a great athlete with natural punching power.
The problem then lies with the fact hes not a grrat technican
Lose some of that speed and exposiveness to increase cardio /endurance and the trade off may not be worth it!

I don't think you lose much speed or explosiveness by leaning out a bit and becoming less hulking and more athletic. The only thing you lose is power, but I think he's got natural power and lots to spare. Less hulking almost always equals more speed.

Theres always a trade off man its how the human body works
He needs to get the balance right
For now technique is more imp...he tried to msucle stipe off him.and that was never happening

Well, he has no idea what he's doing on the ground. Literally a few months of a solid camp and he'd have a much better idea as to what to do from those positions.

1700-1 odds of it going to a decision? That's a joke. 50-45 Stipe was the most likely scenario. I wish I would've betted
At several points in the fight I thought Stipe was carrying Ngannou. Walking around, doing nothing. Leaning on him in weird ways. Not going for a finish that was clearly there.

Knowing now about those ridiculous odds, I find it very suspect. Would love to know if there were big bets on the fight going to a distance.

lol, this is up there with Dana whining about Liddell not following the gameplan against Rampage in Pride and Cain not following the gameplan against JDS for the first FOX show.

Id say his camp.is pretty decent for all roumd skill
but he needs a few months at specialist camps like a top bjj club and a wrestling focused camp
A bitta focused time with a solid boxing or thai coach wouldmt go amiss either

I don't know that much about his camp outside of a few puff pieces. Any camp that would put that corner out there, though, I have my doubts.

No way. He was taking no risks and sucking the life out of a dangerous as fuck opponent all that time he was leaning on him. I've been down there at least in a wrestling match or two, and, yeah, it's will destroying.

Well, he is trying to run his business, and they were banking on this new big star. Stipe, for all his virtues, is not really a big draw, and likely will never be. The UFC needs new stars.

Can’t believe there wasn’t at least one submission tonight

How the UFC can't promote a blue-collar white American HW champion with multiple first round KOs in title defenses is beyond me.

Because a lot comes down to perceived superiority and charisma. Stipe is not charismatic, he is a cadaver on the mic. And he has a lot of KOs but also losses. He has been around for a long while, so it is not as if he was the fresh new dominant thing. He is in a hot streak, but stars are built from more.

He also needs a genuine nemesis for narrative.

Nah, Francis posed little danger beyond the first couple of minutes. Looked like a novice in many positions. Stipe had him in a fetal position against the cage and was being very careful not to cause a stoppage. Fight was suspect. 1700-1

Half dead Ngannou still clipped Stipe multiple times and had him troubled. He's got that much power.

With the payout being 17million-1 he probably had two dollars on it
