I don't see it as a free speech issue at all. It's not like assholes are not allowed to put monuments up on private property. And I think the point is to get the Confederacy to stop shaping Southern culture.
I guess you're right that public spaces are allowed to do as they please, I meant more what it represents vs. who is actually offended. Maybe it is time we lost the South for another generation, it just all seems so symbolic, like the flag burning debate, and I try never to take part in those.
