Bigger fluke - Conor over Aldo, or Duffy overy Conor.

I'd argue that neither was a fluke. Conor's bjj was non-existent back when he fought Duffy. And to me, a Conor-Aldo rematch goes longer and Aldo makes it competitive for a while, but it still ends with a rd 2 or 3 KO via another left. Conors shown since the Aldo fight that his boxing is far superior to everyone else as long as he doesn't gas.

I wouldn't want to rematch Aldo either if I was Conor

I consider a fluke, two guys get into a wild exchange and one gets clipped. Conor has hit that strike so many times and even said that was what he was going to do.

Only a fool would call it a fluke

Depends on how you define "fluke". I'd reserve the word for "outcomes not expected inside a fight". So, it's hard to think of good examples of "flukes": I like "Death by Samson's" example of Anderson's shin.

But given the proportion, the time (13s) and so on, I'd say the Aldo KO was a less likely event. The probability for that outcome is probably much lower than the probability of the Duffy outcome. And I am taking into account that Conor is a spectacular striker and so on: how often do spectacular specialists land their tool flawlessly like that?

Nah Conor's ground game has always been decent. He even tapped a BJJ black belt in his cage warrior days for the title.

This Duffy was a fluke - I apologize to the sensitive viewers and those under the age of 18 for the violence at the end of this GIF.

Neither fight were "flukes". Anderson snapping his shin in half was a good example of a "fluke".
I don't call that a fluke either, Weizmann was checking leg kicks and Anderson wasn't setting them up

I mean he wasn't a white belt, but he's even said himself that it took getting submitted for him to realize he really needed to focus on bjj. Kavanagh talks about it in his book and how it changed Conor's outlook. The submission win over Hill you're referencing was a couple years after the Duffy fight

Conor vs Aldo was the bigger fluke. There is a reason why Conor ducked the rematch. Conor knows he hit the jackpot with that lucky punch.
The lucky punch that he was filmed practicing minutes before the fight?

If Conor's punch wasn't a fluke, then no mma match ever had fluke wins.

Silva lost because Weidman has mastered the art of checking kicks. Eye poke disqualification are because the opponent was too much of a pussy or didn't protect his eyes.

Ellenbergher getting his foot stuck in the cage was a fluke

how can a fluke be something that was predicted? I could maybe understand if conor didn't ko just about everyone, in the same exact manner...just like he did to Eddie, by the way....why don't you google how many 1st round ko's conor has...Again, flukes cannot be predicted..he predicted it, cause he knew aldo was used to fighting short wrestlers with mediocre standup, and having trouble..conor obliterated him and would again.

When it happened I thought it was fair and square but when Conor consistently ducked the rematch I realized it was a fluke and Conor knows it too

Why would conor want to fight a guy he already destroyed and a guy that has already pulled out of one fight, after a year build up?

If Conor vs Aldo wasn't a fluke, there is literally no such thing as a fluke.

It was the definition of a fluke.

Neither we're anything close to a fluke.

One was a perfect counter, placed exactly as predicted.

The other was a superior grappler submitting an inferior grappler.

Neither were flukes.

The thing to add here, though, is that Conor has improved exponentially since he fought Duffy, and would put him in a coma if they fought today.
Are you sure about that ? Duffy probably has the best understanding of Boxing in the UFC, something most MMA fighters don't have.

if you wanted to call one more of a fluke than the other, i suppose i would say the conor/aldo one was more of a fluke but only in the sense that conor's was a counter punch and happened as a result of aldo fighting in a way that was a little uncharacteristic for him.

however, i wouldn't call it a fluke.
conor used his height and reach advantage and capitalized on aldo's mistake. if aldo had fought more conservatively, conor would have still been looking for a mistake that would allow him to land a left hand counter. anyone with a shorter reach than conor should know what he's going to do and should have a strategy that minimizes the chances conor has to hit the counter left.
