Are you surprised Conor is still the UFC’s biggest star?

I recall when Conor lost to Diaz that a lot of people said he needs a win or it’s over, he’ll just be pretty much another guy on the roster and all his fans will disappear

It seems tho that after his losses it’s generated even more interest

The Diaz rematch was bigger than the original
Porier 3 was bigger than 2
The fight with Khabib was his biggest yet (in the UFC) after losing to Mayweather

I thought maybe it’s because of the current mma landscape and lack of stars but even historically he’s currently a bigger star than any MMA fighter ever.

Have you accepted Conor is our biggest star and it will probably be that way for the foreseeable future regardless of his W/L ratio?

His unique ability to make people care about his fights is undeniable

Conor will probably remain MMA's biggest star for decades to come. No one is close to surpassing him. He holds the record for best PPVs for all his PPVs, and he even holds the second highest PPV in boxing.
People love watching McGregor fight. His fanbase across the world is huge and no one is close to surpassing him.

After standing up for what's right in Ireland, his popularity will only grow stronger.

No, UFC and Dana learned from it.
Don't put all your eggs in 1 basket.
Conor doesn't regularly make money and is always 1 step away from retirement or prison.

They try to have several stars at once. One for each market/country and so on

The world needs 1 big combat superstar.
One who can buy anything. Fandom

it just happened. They can't create Conors. And he still elevates the sport by just existing

No, I'm not really. Conor came at the right time, he was loud, brash and KO'd people for fun - he also came whilst Rousey's star was shining which put even more light on him. The UFC also heavily got behind him like they have not done for anyone since. The world tour before the Aldo fight was unprecedented. Then lightning struck, he did the unthinkable and KO'd Aldo in seconds, had the loss and then redemption against Diaz followed by his masterclass against Alvarez. Then he went 10 rounds with Floyd Mayweather which is a huge achievement whatever way you slice it. It really was a special set of circumstances that allowed him to grow into the superstar he became. The chances of anyone ever reaching that level of stardom again in MMA is pretty unlikely.

Nah, thanks to his haters he will always be big

Ummm... McGregor fans actually pay for PPVs, and will fly around the world to watch a live event. That makes them more hardcore than other fans.

Lol fair, but Id argue they are hardcore McGregor fans not mma fans. They would probably fly across the world even if he switched to professional bowling

conor understood from day 1 that this is an entertainment business and that the most charismatic daring person would become a superstar

sure he isn't a GOAT based on record but he was the first to do things other fighters wouldn't have dreamed of doing before he set the precedence.

other fighters have failed to grasp this concept. yes they have stellar records, but stellar records alone done bring in f## you $$$.
