Are You A Last Man?

I’m seeing pathetic threads from Right Wingers about pizza shops, bathrooms, and racist milk. Apparently, President Trump is doing such a bang-up job with his promises especially healthcare, the economy, war widows and what not that these right wing buffoons take their pathetic potshots. Not even an “Obama was the most divisive president in history” or “You can keep your doctor is a lie for the ages” or such claptrap is being proffered. I offer to fill the void between your ears and in your black little misguided hearts…if you really have any. We all know an unhealthy fear is what drives your obedience. But on to better things . . .

The Last Man is a Nietzschean concept. It is a person who is ‘too risk-averse to pursue any aim beyond comfort, and who consequently avoids starting a new generation.’ So far, this sounds like both lazy consumer cattle and right wing weaklings afraid to rock the boat for more pay or benefits bc the Master might become upset and that’s just how the Free Market works anyways. “The Last Man is utterly unadventurous, incapable of self-criticism, wholly caught up in his own petty pleasures, his contentment, his ‘happiness.’ The Last Man is clearly presented as a dolt, the ultimate couch potato, and Nietzsche suggests this as a warning.”

Warning received, right boys?

“When Zarathustra (Nietzsche’s protagonist) announces this vision of the Last Man to the people of the town, . . . they all cheer and demand that they be made Las Men now.”

See? There were Right Wingers back then as well.

Source: Professors Robert Solomon and Kathleen Higgins.

The Last Man is a culmination of lazy, cowardly herd like behavior. We have the lazy and herd part covered by Capitalism, television, and the sweet capitulation to "that's just the way things are" mentality. The cowardly part? I'm not going to repeat myself.

i dont think you put much thought into this
>It is a person who is ‘too risk-averse to pursue any aim beyond comfort, and who consequently avoids starting a new generation.’

which group do you think has more babies

"The political right is having a lot more kids than the political left," Syracuse University professor Arthur Brooks says. "The gap is actually 41 percent."

and if you want a more recent one

"A baby boom among conservatives could push the nation's politics further right in the coming decades, especially since liberals aren't having as many children"

you think its conservatives who want economic comfort? they are the ones who want less taxes and a smaller social safety net, so that their potential gains will be increased at the risk of having no social safety net to fall back on. its the left that wants higher taxes (less potential success) so they can have a comfortable safety net should they fail

i think you should think about things before you try to grandstand

He's been in college since 2002, I think he knows what hes talking about

When he walks thru campus he's often mistaken for a professor. It makes him feel better about being a 40 year old freshman.

Having a bunch of kids was the default safety net for most people until fairly recently. More kids= more people to take care of you when you are old. Also If conservatives wanted a smaller safety net West Virginia would not have expanded medicaid and Collins, McCain and Murkowski would have killed the program. Bush would have been able to scrap Medicare rather than expand it.

I think what the TS is getting at is conservatives don't take to the streets, are not active in politics outside of voting and online discussions.

The Tea party didn't protest Obama's inauguration but the Resistance protested Trump's. There was no massive resistance to the supreme court legalizing gay marriage etc When it comes down to it conservatives prefer compromise and complacency than confrontation.

I'm what might be called a Penultimate Man.

I'm very into my sensualist lifestyle, but have reproduced.

I'm the perfect mix of lazy and productive... for myself.

This is a chance for the right wing followers to show off their shiny chains and brag how good they have it when an Owner parasitically sops up all the profit the labor creates. Come on, let's hear how necessary parasites are to American labor. Pizza was probably shit.

But what else are you servile obedient right wingers going to lord over? Trump's achievements? ahahahahahaha

I guess now that Trump has fixed health care he’s ready to move on to taxes

Nietzsche aimed this criticism not really at the left wingers at his time, but at the comfortable, right wing German bourgeoisie. If anything, its a critique of consumerism, bland, sentimental right wing politics (STAND BEFORE ARE FLAG), the desire to earn money and comforts, the vapid concerns about the 401k and getting the kids into a good college and so forth.

His venom for left wingers was reserved for another passage in the same book that TS cites:

FW Nietzsche said:
Lo, this is the tarantula's den! Would'st thou see the tarantula itself? Here hangeth its web: touch this, so that it may tremble.

There cometh the tarantula willingly: Welcome, tarantula! Black on thy back is thy triangle and symbol; and I know also what is in thy soul.

Revenge is in thy soul: wherever thou bitest, there ariseth black scab; with revenge, thy poison maketh the soul giddy!

Thus do I speak unto you in parable, ye who make the soul giddy, ye preachers of equality! Tarantulas are ye unto me, and secretly revengeful ones!

But I will soon bring your hiding-places to the light: therefore do I laugh in your face my laughter of the height.

Therefore do I tear at your web, that your rage may lure you out of your den of lies, and that your revenge may leap forth from behind your word "justice."

Because, for man to be redeemed from revenge—that is for me the bridge to the highest hope, and a rainbow after long storms.

Otherwise, however, would the tarantulas have it. "Let it be very justice for the world to become full of the storms of our vengeance"—thus do they talk to one another.

"Vengeance will we use, and insult, against all who are not like us"—thus do the tarantula-hearts pledge themselves.

"And 'Will to Equality'—that itself shall henceforth be the name of virtue; and against all that hath power will we raise an outcry!"

Ye preachers of equality, the tyrant-frenzy of impotence crieth thus in you for "equality": your most secret tyrant-longings disguise themselves thus in virtue-words!

Fretted conceit and suppressed envy—perhaps your fathers' conceit and envy: in you break they forth as flame and frenzy of vengeance.

What the father hath hid cometh out in the son; and oft have I found in the son the father's revealed secret.

Inspired ones they resemble: but it is not the heart that inspireth them—but vengeance. And when they become subtle and cold, it is not spirit, but envy, that maketh them so.

Their jealousy leadeth them also into thinkers' paths; and this is the sign of their jealousy—they always go too far: so that their fatigue hath at last to go to sleep on the snow.

In all their lamentations soundeth vengeance, in all their eulogies is maleficence; and being judge seemeth to them bliss.

But thus do I counsel you, my friends: distrust all in whom the impulse to punish is powerful!

They are people of bad race and lineage; out of their countenances peer the hangman and the sleuth-hound.

Distrust all those who talk much of their justice! Verily, in their souls not only honey is lacking.

And when they call themselves "the good and just," forget not, that for them to be Pharisees, nothing is lacking but—power!

My friends, I will not be mixed up and confounded with others.

There are those who preach my doctrine of life, and are at the same time preachers of equality, and tarantulas.

That they speak in favour of life, though they sit in their den, these poison-spiders, and withdrawn from life—is because they would thereby do injury.

To those would they thereby do injury who have power at present: for with those the preaching of death is still most at home.

Were it otherwise, then would the tarantulas teach otherwise: and they themselves were formerly the best world-maligners and heretic-burners.

With these preachers of equality will I not be mixed up and confounded. For thus speaketh justice unto me: "Men are not equal."

And neither shall they become so! What would be my love to the Superman, if I spake otherwise?

On a thousand bridges and piers shall they throng to the future, and always shall there be more war and inequality among them: thus doth my great love make me speak!

Inventors of figures and phantoms shall they be in their hostilities; and with those figures and phantoms shall they yet fight with each other the supreme fight!

Good and evil, and rich and poor, and high and low, and all names of values: weapons shall they be, and sounding signs, that life must again and again surpass itself!

Aloft will it build itself with columns and stairs—life itself into remote distances would it gaze, and out towards blissful beauties- therefore doth it require elevation!

And because it requireth elevation, therefore doth it require steps, and variance of steps and climbers! To rise striveth life, and in rising to surpass itself.

And just behold, my friends! Here where the tarantula's den is, riseth aloft an ancient temple's ruins—just behold it with enlightened eyes!

Verily, he who here towered aloft his thoughts in stone, knew as well as the wisest ones about the secret of life!

That there is struggle and inequality even in beauty, and war for power and supremacy: that doth he here teach us in the plainest parable.

How divinely do vault and arch here contrast in the struggle: how with light and shade they strive against each other, the divinely striving ones.—

Thus, steadfast and beautiful, let us also be enemies, my friends! Divinely will we strive against one another!—

Alas! There hath the tarantula bit me myself, mine old enemy! Divinely steadfast and beautiful, it hath bit me on the finger!

"Punishment must there be, and justice"—so thinketh it: "not gratuitously shall he here sing songs in honour of enmity!"

Yea, it hath revenged itself! And alas! now will it make my soul also dizzy with revenge!

That I may not turn dizzy, however, bind me fast, my friends, to this pillar! Rather will I be a pillar-saint than a whirl of vengeance!

Verily, no cyclone or whirlwind is Zarathustra: and if he be a dancer, he is not at all a tarantula-dancer!—

Thus spake Zarathustra.

Risk averse is wanting the government to take care of everyone. Your own father failed you and so you need big government to step in and set things right.
Insurance concepts of pooling resources for big risks to the general population is not 'wanting the government to take care of everyone" but that's how you've been programmed to think. You fall for the right wing propaganda bc it's easier than thinking. Look, cries the right wing slave, Big REPRESENTATIVE Government is the enemy. We are alone except for trusting tyrannical Big Business who provides us with our jobs and very livelihoods. Labor unions are the bad guys, we don't want higher pay or benefits, we want the "Right To Work." smh

Your simplistic formulations are beneath contempt. Try thinking for once. Put down the video games, turn off the TV, ignore the Applebees night out, and think about who you are, where you belong, what your shortcomings are and your strengths. Think of who owns this country and think of your place.

An unexamined life is a wasted life.

TS is taking intro to Philosophy 101 and decided to share his newfound "enlightenment" with the forum.

Have patience with him.
Obviously you've never had either philosophy class bc Nietzsche comes much later in the curriculum. You're either ignorant or a lying shitbag.

Which is it?

You would say either Intro to Philosophy or Philosophy 101, not both.
Another ignoramus floats to the top like a turd in a toilet bowl.

All those brains and good looks too, you are a right winger. And you probably believe that too you sycophantic slave.

Labor doesn't create profit, the owner does. The owner is the one that believes he can supply the demand of a particular product. Then invests his time and money into starting the business. Once the business is set up, he/she will advertise what they are willing to pay for labor on the jobs they just created. No one else in that equation has worked as hard or had as much responsibility as the owner.
