They probably should be quite close to each other, assuming you're giving them the same amount of attention.
That being said, I guess body proportions might be a factor. I'm short, and my legs are short relative to my upper body. The squat probably isn't quite as technically (or physically) demanding a movement for me as it is for most others. But overall I think people just tend to neglect training the squat properly. Speaking strictly for myself, I suspect my squat will surpass my deadlift within a year.
If you look at raw powerlifting meets, outside of the best squatters, they typically deadlift about 10-15% more than they squat. That's with knee sleeves that add a little extra on the squat too. Genpop that difference is usually more pronounced as squatting heavy weights is something that takes time. I guess if you have the right body type for it they could be around the same or reversed, but I'd say that's outside the norm. For me I suck at squatting. I have pretty long legs at 6'2 and I had to squat 3 times a week for a good while before hitting 150kg. I didn't deadlift for a year and then pulled 190kg within a few weeks. I almost never deadlift. Then again I don't use sleves, a belt or shoes so that probably doesn't help. They probably should be quite close to each other, assuming you're giving them the same amount of attention.

Yeah you're right. Superheavies (+120kg) are exceptions. It's not uncommon to see them squat more than they deadlift.Everyone is different.
Leverages plays a big part. I follow a lifter Tom Martin. Always been a deadlift specialist but has got his squat to near match his freakish deadlift (granted in wraps). He's pulled over 400kg at 100 bw in comp. Just posted a 400 squat at 106 bw.
If squat is worked hard with good technique, then it certainly can catch deadlift. Many heavyweight powerlifters can squat more than deadlift.

Tom Martin is a freak, but wraps can add a pretty substantial amount of weight if done right. This article is a pretty good read: https://mystrengthbook.com/blog/how...rlifters-the-analysis-to-end-all-speculation/
Look at Blaine Sumner. He set the IPF Classic total without wraps with a 415kg squat
He turned to equipped and two years later he squatted 505kg in wraps
Insane squats regardless.
