I doubt the Democratic Party survives 2020. There are many reasons, but the simple answer is that identity politics tent isn’t big enough for the identity groups they need.
As for Biden, people are overestimating his appeal. People seem to forget how Biden campaigns—he is very inarticulate. He tends to stick his foot in his mouth and alienate large segments of the base. He is very consistent in that regard. I don’t think he will do nearly as well in the primary as people believe. He will lose out to someone with ethnic credentials IMO. Obama might even snub Joe and endorse Kamala.
Bernie may win the primary. He’s the only guy I can see that excites more than half the base, and he came pretty close to winning the primary last time. Many on the Left believe he would have beaten Trump. The kicker is that a large chunk of Dems won’t vote for an outright socialist, ever. That’s something the Dems will discover too late. And that’s how the Party ends—not with a bang, but with a Bernie.
