Movies 10 Intense War Movies Approved By Soldiers and Historians

Glory and Come and See should be on that list.

They are far better movies than some of those listed.

Reactions: Cid
No Black Hawk Down? No Platoon?
Jarhead sucked (except for the scene at the end when the Vietnam vet gets on the bus).

FMJ
Platoon
Casualties of War

When are they going to make a movie about the battle of Fallujah?

My Top 3

1. Full Metal Jacket
2. Platoon
3. Saving Private Ryan

Honorable Mention: Glory

I served in the Marines(0311) and I thought Jarhead sucked.
I thought Jarhead was relatively accurate. What unit were you with? 3/8 here.

10 Intense War Movies Approved By Soldiers and Historians

10. Saving Private Ryan
9. Jarhead
8. Dunkirk
7. Cold Mountain
6. 1917
5. Hacksaw Ridge
4. Alexander
3. Das Boot
2. All Quiet on the Western Front
1. Full Metal Jacket

I would put "When Trumpets Fade" on that list. I thought it was very underrated.

"Grave for Fireflies" is extremely good but very hard to watch. It was made by a guy whose sister died after the bombing of Hiroshima. He changed the ending from what happened because it was so painful.

"Lawerence of Arabia" should be on the list.

"Rescue Dawn" is underrated severally.

"Apocalypse Now" should be on the list someplace. It is a very weird movie that is sort of about war.

"Glory" should be in the top 10.

I am happy thought they got "Cold Mountain" on that list. That is an extremely good movie that gets overlooked all the time.

1917 is fucking impressive.

Alexander? Nope. Not even. Maybe the costume design and the way they made the phalanx March....

Heh, Jarhead. The low crawl exercise scene made me chuckle. I was in the theater. The people around looked at me like I was an asshole, but didn't know that scene was total bullshit, as that ex with live fire hasn't been done for a very long time.

1) Full Metal Jacket
2) Saving Private Ryan
3) BlackHawk Down
4) Platoon
5) Monuments Men (Personal Favorite)

Honestly though, the best War anything is Band of Brothers.

How was life being stationed in 29?

Not bad. I was more of a barracks Joe. The nothingness didn't bother me, and I saved lots of money by doing nothing. I laugh when boots griped about paying for a taxi into Jacksonville with nothing to do. Wasn't there long, though. I had been there for nine months, then got recruited for ANGLICO.
