Zuluzinho returns to MMA

I know people love to bash Zulu or even mock his father but I've always been a fan in a weird way. The family as a whole intrigues me. I don't know how to describe it. I know he's not a great fighter but he still managed to achieve a mythical status before being exposed over and over. I eventually developed a bit of sympathy for the guy. You know he wants nothing more than to be able to compete and win some fights but his body has always been one of his greatest adversaries.

Last I heard of him, Rei Zulu was living in a shitty one room wooden "house" in poverty in a small village, and he makes money by letting young rich brazilians JJ practitioners beat the shit out of him and film it for fun and bragging rights...

Poor Rei Zulu, with his son having 5 kids of his own + financial troubles, who knows if he can also afford to house and feed his own dad...

He´s actually sick.

Not so true.
Yes, he lives in poverty.
But hes quite retired. Hes quite fucked up also. If im not wrong, he had a stroke some years ago also.

You can check this vid (in portuguese):

Thank you! I don't speak a word of portuguese, but I'm fluent in French so I understood about half of what they said, that was nice.
So these stories of rich kids visiting his place to beat him up for money are false I hope?
I wasn't even speaking of actual real vale tudo fights, the guys who told me that were saying that in these "bouts", Zulu wasn't expected to strike back, just take his beating and his money, which really made me sad...

Same over here man ^^ when I was a kid, I loved the anime Baki (there were 2 seasons at the time, recently they released more), in which Rei Zulu is a character;
So when this weird "Zuluzinho" was announced to fight Fedor in PRIDE, and my brother (who knows 10 times more about MMA than me) explained to me that he was the son of that guy from Baki that I loved so much, I was kinda fascinated that he was real, as were a LOT of characters from that manga/anime.

But the only recent bout I managed to find at the time was his fight against Enson Inoue, in which Rei Zulu got smashed and the referee took his sweet time to stop the punishment he was taking from an enraged Inoue who kept striking him on the back on his neck while screaming at him, and that made me kinda sad again.
(on the forum, Enson said that Zulu was talking shit before the fight and that's why his brother Egan had to pull him of him)

Then some brazilian friends of my brother, that I believed (maybe it was just a bullshit rumor they heard) told me that story about Zuluzinho's father, I hope(d) it was just a bad rumor...

He´s actually sick.

That's too bad, it's his heart right? Or something else that I didn't pick up from that video?
I also checked Sherdog's fight finder, and the last bout he used to have there was against Inoue in 2000, but now there's 2 new fights from 2007 and 2008 that weren't there until recently, I'll try to look into them more...

Thanks for your answers guys!

He had a stroke in 2016, also broke his femur.

The Inoue fight was really lousy, trashtalk or not, Rei Zulu was something like 50 yrs old..

Think about the kind of people that do this for fun.

He is fighting on 15. march on Megdan 4 in Serbia

Main event - Vaso Bakocevic vs. Hermes Franca

Zuluzinho won by TKO, 1st round
Vaso Bakocevic def. Hermes Franca by TKO, 1st round

This poor guy really shouldn't have to go back and fight for a living.

Zulu (40 years old).. 1-0 in 2019.
Cain (36 years old)... 0-1 in the last 3 years.
