More of a giant marine rolly-PollyIt's a huge sand flea.
Much better description. That's a hell of a defense it has. I guess that's why it's been around for a few million years. That's just a guess. It looks like a simple, prehistoric creature.More of a giant marine rolly-Polly

Researchers Identified a New 'Supergiant' Crustacean With 14 Legs—and They Named It After Darth Vader
In recent years, the deep-sea giant isopod has also become a seafood delicacy in Vietnam, where it was discoveredwww.smithsonianmag.com
Scientists recently "discovered" a new isopod and named it after Darth Vader. The funny thing about this discovery is that, other than the creature doesn't really look like Vader, I've known of this creature years ago when I first saw it at a seafood market in Vietnam. I didn't think it was a "new" species because it's just there, being eaten by the locals. Also didn't think Isopods are really new; thought they were ancient if anything. I guess the scientific community can be late in recording new species even if it's well-known in a particular region.

Cool stuff. I guess it's just difficult to log in every single species humans come across. It's not as common as it used to be, but scientists do find new species, or species they thought were extinct, in fish markets.
There was a new shark species found in an Indian fish market a couple of years ago. There was a salmon carp, thought to have been extinct, found in a Cambodia fish market.
edit: Here's a crab found at a pet market in China that was an undiscovered species. It's the only species in it's Genus.
That’s pretty cool! I would reach out to a local universities biology dept, a forestry dept or maybe try Firefly garden (quick google search found it on Bali, a firefly breeding center).Cool stuff. I guess it's just difficult to log in every single species humans come across.
I think it's possible that I have found a new species of bioluminescent beetle in Indonesia.
I was staying in a bungalow in the jungle and saw what I thought was a cockroach in my room, threw it out the door into the dark, and then realized it was glowing. I thought hey cockroaches don't glow so I took a closer look and saw two glowing spots at the end of its abdomen and watched it walk away. And took a video of it.
Since I never seen a bioluminescent cockroach looking thing, I went on google to try to figure out what it was. I searched for hours before giving up. Everything I found either had beetles that had two lights on each side near their head, or had one light at the bottom of their abdomen. I couldn't find anything that has two lights on each side bottom of their abdomen and most species I found online where either from Europe or the Americas. It doesn't seem like there's as much information on bioluminescent beetles from South East Asia.
This was like 3 years ago and I just did a search and still couldn't find anything. The closest thing is a type of click beetle found in China in 2019, but that thing looks different from what I found. Did I really discover a new species? @Zookeeper Gabe would you know where I can go to confirm or share this info in case it really is a new species?
