Your opinion about TJ Dillashaw

Compete scum

He should've been banned permanently

Guy swears up and down He's clean over the course of at least 5 years

Gets caught then tries to preemptively admit guilt and apologize for his actions as if previous 5 years were exempt

He's the snake McGregor called out early He probably lies to his children

My full thoughts? The multiple TJ revelations hurt, not gonna lie.

I didn't despise TAM, but wasn't really a fan of Faber, and Duane was pretty cool in my book. The Dodson stoppage was really clearly early, but quickly became one of the more forgotten controversies over time. But I always remembered that Herb stopped it cuz TJ got pushed to the ground while wobbled. Then in the Barao build, I had noted just how much TJ was progressing fight to fight, even in that Assuncao robbery. I still didn't think he was gonna beat Barao, but I was defending how well he would do. And then I felt people were unfairly shitting on him for some joke training videos taken out of context.

That Barao performance wasn't the best performance I've ever seen or the biggest upset I've ever seen, but in the Venn diagram of the two, it's far and away my favorite example of both. Watching all their work and that build turn into a complete wall to wall shellacking, TJ pulling angles and putting it on Barao from every direction, then to see victory and watch them all embrace, even after the TAM-Bang split, could really put chills into any fan invested in the match. It's still a cool MMA to relive.

Then the split became more furious and accusations were lobbied back and forth. Cue the worst villain of all time in pure douchery amassed in human form, Cody Garbrandt, and it was hard to side against TJ. The first claims came out here of TJ juicing, but like the true idiot Cody is, he threw the label at TJ out of one side of his mouth while basically suggesting all of TAM was juicing out the other. Also there was the accusation that TJ ended the career of a training partner, but the guy didn't want to speak up at the time, so it wasn't holding much weight. Add in Faber as the coach just sounding more and more bitchy about the split and looking completely at fault for it, and TJ was still coming out of the argument looking clean, and that back to back KO was another shining accomplishment. Then when Cody left Tam and Justin's complaints came up, almost the same exact way it happened with TJ, it only made TAM look more wrong and TJ-Bang look more right.

And then.. And then Holdsworth came out and basically admitted everything about TJ was true. TJ did end his career and there were videos showing how rough his sparring went, and how sometimes he really crossed the line of gym etiquette with his cheap shots. And the steroid accusations get repeated too. And then TJ gets caught blatantly cheating, and the accusations start to cover his whole career because of how long they've been made, and they go all the way back to even his 'miraculous' improvements he was making between every fight before Barao. Everything said about TJ that wasn't said through the mouthpiece of a complete moron had daylight shone upon it.

Frankly, I know this isn't realistic, because if it was, everyone would come up with as many bullshit excuses as they could against USADA, but if someone is caught cheating, and you can absolutely prove their intent? Should be a ban for life. TJ is included in that thinking. His performances inside the cage are a fantastic example of someone not only great, but fun to watch. However, that "great" carries a huge question mark now. Since he served his suspension, and testing is supposed to be better, I can only shrug my shoulders and assume that the TJ of old might return and could likely be the top of the heap if he stays clean. And his fights will be worth watching. But I'll always hope he doesn't find success each time he steps out there. Amazing how much his potential performances I could find simultaneously incredible and disappointing.

tl;dr?

My opinion is TJ is a game, talented, fighter who "went too far" in some of the aspects of sportsmanship.

That said, he's no slouch, he's not a quitter, and he comes to kill or be killed.

I would be more excited to watch one of his fights than 95% of the UFC roster in today's game.

You don't have to prove up "everything he's done," but please respect his body of work

Yes, he lost to Henry Cejudo, at a lighter weight, but Cejudo is a fabulous champion, and TJ was a shell of himself (at his best weight).

Time will tell, but I think he has the fire to get back up on top.
Respect his body of work? So should we pretend taking EPO doesn't taint his entire career?

I like TJ, he's fun to have around. Sometimes I root for him, but usually against. Nothing personal, he just ends up fighting guys I like better.

I hope he kicks Sandhagen's ass

I enjoyed a lot of his fights

the drama with his former gym made them all look terrible

obviously being caught with PEDS devalues all of his previous wins

he served his time & I have no prob with him bring back. Hope they test him rigorously

wow dude has 4 losses in like 20 fights, 2 of which are tkos... and both were somewhat controversial.. at the very least not even real knock outs. both stoppages were ref stoppages, lame ones at that imo. and he faced the cream of the crop of talent, most of em at their peaks. chinless? i think u should re-think that one my man
Plus the decision loss to Assuncao was more than questionable. 4 losses, 3 of them controversial, one of them the closest fights in history against Cruz. 16 wins, at least 7 of them controversial because he's a cheater. Potentially the greatest fighter in the world with only like an 9-1 genuine career. Strange, ain't it?

I agree with everything in this response.

Well said.

Extremely talented fighter who likely got a lot of his skill from the EPO recovery time. He's a whiny cunt though. He has cried and whined about every loss.

Exciting fighter but kind of a dick. Him and I literally bumped into each other at a pool party in Vegas. It was a pretty mutual mistake. I apologized he just flexed and stared me down without saying a word. This was before he was champ and all that. I kinda enjoy watching him lose now.

A douche at a pool party in Las Vegas?! Pfffft, I am shocked

before tj got busted i said it was coming and not because of what cody would say but because tj was world champion and having crazy sparring wars with guys like aron pico and other guys who are not under usada testing and ego definitely has to get in the way there. he fought in a way that would be hard to sustain training for especially when cutting down to 125/ 135. so to me if it wasn't peds tjs burn out was coming soon. he says he used because the weight cut was to much but then he also said the weight cut was easy and that had nothing to do with anything. tj isnt an honest guy but hes not competing in an honest sport. the real issues with him are what hes done to sparring partners . how no gym has cornered him and pummeled him into submission is beyond me. imagine a sparring partner sucker punches you in the back of the head or knees you in the face during boxing training how does that person leave the building or come back ? why let that go? to me thats to the death shit. at that point you are defending your self. team alpha male should have jumped tj and beat him close to death for the shit hes done in training. he fucked a guys career being a hot head. dude never got what was coming to him he lucked out cejudo ended him so fast.

At his best he's arguably the best p4p fighter, but his ambition and competitiveness makes him cheat to become even better. Him starting MMA when older also means less time to improve and amass a all-time record, so the PED's are a tool to get there with less time.

He's old for a lighter weight fighter now, 35, so chances are he'll show up in fantastic shape because of the ambition and competitiveness, but the body starts to give up soon.
