Went Interstellar. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was dominant too

You gotta really go with the flow on the plot but Interstellar was the last movie to truly give me the feels and wreck me. The docking scene in the theatre was one of the most intense, gripping theatre experiences I've ever had. Also, out of the God knows how many movies he's scored this is Hans Zimmer's best work.

My vote has to go to Whiplash. If you haven't seen it, you really need to check it out.

Another real good year. Here's my personal top 25.

1. Birdman
2. Snowpiercer
3. The Grand Budapest Hotel
4. Under the Skin
5. Song of the Sea
6. What We Do in the Shadows
7. Interstellar
8. Starry Eyes
9. Calvary
10. Edge of Tomorrow
11. Gone Girl
12. Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter
13. Whiplash
14. The Raid 2
15. Nightcrawler
16. Nymphomaniac: Vol. I
16. The Double
17. Guardians of the Galaxy
18. Spring
19. Enemy
20. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
21. The Lego Movie
22. When Marnie Was There
23.The World of Kanako
24. John Wick
25. In Order of Disappearance

Overall I didn't think Nightcrawler was a good film. But Gyllenhaal's performance in it is probably what stands out the most for me in 2014. Dude shoulda had Oscars out the ass

I liked just about every movie on the list, vote goes to Guardians of the Galaxy, which was probably the most purely entertaining movie on the list, although Kingsman, Edge of Tomorrow, Lego Movie, John Wick and X Men were great in that regard as well. Night crawler, Whiplash, Gone Girl, Grand Budapest Hotel and Birdman were all great popcorn movies too. Nothing classic, but lots of solid choices.

A really great year for movies, actually. I was raving about 2012 but 2014 blows it out of the water all-in-all.

1. Gone Girl
2. Interstellar
3. Nightcrawler
4. Ex Machina
5. Whiplash
6. Birdman
7. Guardians of the Galaxy
8. It Follows
9. The Grand Budapest Hotel
10. The Babadok

A what the heck, this year is so good might as well do a top 20.

11. The Lego Movie
12. ´71
13. John Wick
14. Edge of Tomorrow
15. Predestination
16. Fury (easily the years most inconsistent film)
17. The Homesman
18. Magic in the Moonlight
19. The Winter Soldier
20. Kingsman

In contention: 300: Rise of an Empire, Foxcather, Dear White People, Resonable Doubt, Young Ones, Kung Fu Killer, American Sniper.

So yeah, might be the best year of the 2000nds.

Special mentions goes to George Clooney for directing the downright abysmal Monument Men.:p
Also Cirio Santiago's (one of my favorite B-movie directors) last film came out this year.

EDIT: Foook forgot about Raid 2. That should probably land in the outer edges of the top 10.

Yeah, the fact that he wasn't even nominated is a travesty.

I mean, look at the line-up.

Eddie Redmayne -- physical but overrated performance, classical example of the Academy awarding someone for playing someone handicapped.
Steve Carell -- good performance, but nowhere near Oscar level, basically just got the nod for playing against character (his usual comedy fare)
Benedict Cumberbatch -- Cumberbatch playing Cumberbatch with his usual ticks and mannerisms. It's fine to see but nothing that should get you an Oscar.
Bradley Cooper -- Great performance, third best of the year. Cooper plays him like a man trying to hold a mask over his emotions, as if trying to appear blank and proffesional towards the world.
Michael Keaton -- the only real competiiton for Gyllenhaal that year. Though, to be fair, I suppose Keaton's acting performance got a lot of help from the glossy camera-work of the film.

So yeah, absurd that Gyllenhall wasn't even nominated when he very well could have won the award.

Damn good year for movies, IMO

Gonna have to think about this one.

Probably go with Interstellar, but Gone Girl, Ex Machina, Edge of Tomorrow, Whiplash, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Imitation Game, and John Wick are all just top notch.

I give it to Edge of Tomorrow, but there are some other serious heavy hitters. Theory of Everything shouldn't be relegated to "other."

Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game I tried to work in. But as per usual, I try to have at least one film for each genre. The only ones I could see myself throwing out are 22 Jump Street, but then there's no comedy. And Godzilla, but Godzilla seemed like a distinctly Sherdog kind of movie.

1. GOTG
2. Edge of Tomorrow
3. Kingsman
4. Interstellar
5. Ex-Machina

Honorable mentions to Boyhood, John Wick, and Frank. I really enjoyed Frank.

It's your poll. I'd have tossed a bunch of stuff in favor of Theory of Everything, Predestination and even Fury...but it's not my poll.

Mostly garbage but interstellar soundtrack on blu ray is epic
