I am a former creationist Christian. I "spiritually" search and as such, I don't hide it from my son. We speak about what life is. We spend time talking about critical thinking and even how understanding will change from year to year.
We have spoken of death since he was little. For him to understand the reality of ending life and what sacredness it has (if any).
From snails to spiders, fish to sharks, pets to relatives.
We speak matter of factly but I recognise that treading carefully is essential.
Instigating an existential crisis in a young kid is a thin line from being open about death.
I let me son do the digging to avoid overloading him but having a healthy recognition (and respect) of death is a missing (or fading) social issue in Western society.
