Let's say your tucking your child in at night and all the sudden they are scared and tell you they are afraid to die?

What do you that have kids tell them? It doesn't have to be your kid either it could be siblings significant others friends etc.

Im wondering what Aethiests say to their kid to comfort them if they ask that..."Nothing happens son you cease to exist forever."

My kids have been exposed to death. In just the last three years they lost my wife’s grandmother (their great grandmother) my dad (their grandpa) and our family dog. I just tell my kids they’re all in heaven even though I don’t believe in any of that personally.

Why would anyone say that to their kid, unless they hated them and wanted them to be scared and miserable? Lol.

I would do what my parents did, and let my kid establish their own thoughts on any major subject. I remember my folks saying something like, "we don't know, no one knows what happens when we die," and I think that's a reasonable answer. Because it's true, no one knows. People can have their ideas and hopes and dreams and visions, but it's a veiled darkness.

it's a phase and they'll get over it. My younger one was in this phase last year, kept crying about me dying because younger parents than me have died before. It was non stop for weeks, she'd get depressed and start crying in the middle of walking to school...... and now, it's gone, the phase is over.

I believe in heaven so I tell them we will end up in heaven with no more sin or pain or death. But we hope we won’t go to heaven for a long time.

To be honest no one knows definitively what happens after. Just be honest and say that you don't know, but make the best of you life now, this could be your last and you got nothing to lose.

When I was five years old I went through a time where every night I’d go to bed then cry thinking about dying. The first time I went out to my mother and she yelled at me to get back to bed 😂 so I just dwelled on it for a period of time. As a kid I didn’t believe in god or heaven or afterlife. And I guess the nothingness of eternity is what scared me.

Now I welcome it.

I pretend I didn’t hear the kid and in a jovial mood I say “Who wants ice cream?!?!!” They forget about it and we don’t discuss it.

You’re welcome. Parent of the year.
