You think Usman KO’ng Mas was more a result of..

Except it's not. Ones a dominant champ and the others a career 50/50 fighter who made a name for himself by beating
-A fighter whos lost all confidence and is 1-5 in last 6
-A washed wrestler, with an albiet impressive but lucky KO
- Another career 50/50 by Dr stoppage

Anyone who wants to argue Mas is worldclass has no idea what theyre talking about. The stars aligned for him in 2019 after 15 years of mediocrity and he will be right back to mediocrity now that hes firmly out of title contention
usman is not on steroids

Improved striking or Masvidal kinda thinking “no way this dude can out strike me” especially after that first fight they had, maybe mas thought usman wanted no part of the striking..

I think a combination of both.

That's just a great punch.

You can make up whatever story you want but that was a damn beautiful punch, perfect placement, great extension, that little slap to pull the guard away was a sufficient distraction.

Hard to argue with Usman's recent results. Trevor Whitman is a great coach and his fighters have shown really crisp striking, and at a very high level.

I think Masvidal deserves a rematch.
Colby also. Usman should fight Jorge, Colby and Wonderboy in 2022. Increase the number of defenses Kamarudeen.

Both but more Mas fighting like an idiot. Don't understand why everyone thinks they're prime RJJ and can fight with their hands down and clown around etc.

Jorge was dropped by the same combination against Rodrigo Damn and also against a bum in a backyard trashy fight.

Usman got the angle and obstructed Mas' vision with his lead hand, all Usman

Yes, Usman's striking improved, but it's not like he landed some dynamic combo. It was just a clean power right. Mas was overly wary of the takedowns, which I believe (and which he claimed) helped set it up. And yes, I'm sure he didn't think much of Usman's standup. Usman spent the entire first fight avoiding the standup, so I'm sure this reinforced that belief.

In retrospect, Mas should've moved forward more. His game plan was pretty miserable, and I believe he was mostly fighting to not lose for as long as it lasted. Usman's offensive striking when he's first is quite respectable, but there are gaping holes in his striking defense when he's on the back foot. If Colby can light him up from boxing range, then Mas sure af could.

Usman’s striking has gotten better but he’s still very hittable and as he falls in love with his hands and his body breaks down making wrestling harder, this could be dangerous for him.

Jorge tried to bait him into striking with him because he thought it would be an easy path to victory. He took Usman lightly and paid for it.. That shot was crazy too and would have kicked anyone out if it connected.

Usman is an incredible athlete who is looking better every fight.

This was my take too but you said it better than I could've

Different level striking Usman and Backyard Rey are...

Usman’s a great fighter and the rightful p4p #1 but his striking is still poor for championship standards. He misses shots and then wings overhand recklessly, puts his eyes down when he gets hit (especially noticeable in the Colby fight) and rarely ever strikes with combinations.

What makes him great is his toughness, ability to reset and his stamina. His striking still has work to do to be considered that of an elite fighter.

All Usman. Parried, got his head down and off the center line, and fired a fucking telephone pole at Jorge’s chin.

I don't like Usman but his skills are improving exponentially while Mas is likely on the decline. That said I don't care what WW fighter was in there that night, no one is eating that shot.

A combination of the takedown threat and Masvidal thinking Usman couldn’t do that to him

It was a result of usman being super confident cause he already beat this guy in their last meeting.

Jorge being tentative due to the takedown threat of Usman and getting this title shot coming off a decisive loss.

those along with the law of averages for a fighter like Jorge who already has 15 or so defeats on his resume and a stoppage defeat was absolutely most likely outcome

Masvidal looked way too comfortable while in Usman's range.
Usman has improved and is also way more confident in what he can do. He's a scary dude now.
