Dana's words in the post-fight presser.

What absolute BS.
If either one gets a TKO or a KO, it is a TKO or a KO.
If either one wins by a submission, it is a submission.
If either one wins by a decision, it is a win for either one by points.
If it is a draw, it is a draw.

The rules are there for a reason.
It doesn't matter one bit who is the champ.
Why not let the champs just roid and wear headgear if they should have privilege?

I would aagree that winning a debatable split decision should not lead to a title change. It should at least be a unanimous decision to win the title, or at least no decision going to the opponent if one judge has it as a draw.
Like the old saying goes, "To be the Man, you gotta beat the Man"

He says himself in am old school guy, implying this is what was believed back in the days of boxing, it does not mean its some hard rule.

I would venture to say it dosent apply here cause Strickland was champ for half a second, but if its a dude like say Anderson or Jones who held the belt for years then ya if its a toss up round ill give the champ the benefit of the doubt.

It’s a stupid rule that’s not written down anywhere, held only in the minds of fans who wanted their favourite fighter to keep their belt. Everyone knows if their guy was a challenger they’d be saying “well where’s that rule come from huh? Show me the part of the criteria that says that, well you can’t!!”
