You guys remember when Demian Maia pieced up Colby?

I hated Colby at that time until he beat Lawler and then realized he deserves a bit of credit. But during this fight I was hoping Maia would knock him out. Then the rest of the fight happened.

His cardio at WW was frustrating at times
One of the reasons I CANNOT STAND watching this guy fight, watching him desperately, halfheartedly shoot for sloppy take downs with ZERO conviction is just sad to watch. Not even admirable.

He went 0-21 on woodley (5 rounds)
He went 0-13 on colby (3 rounds)
He went 0-15 on Usman (3 rounds)

Maia's sad sad 1 round cardio with 0 Wrestling or take down threat is a lot of the reason why Usman and Woodleys takedown defense stat is so incredibly padded

I remember this fight, particularly the way Colby, despite getting a 10-8 on a very dead Maia in round 3, was sucking wind and pushing his punches. I also remember 2 very very unrelated things after this fight. Colby's comfort and conditioning in effective volume striking just skyrocketing for his next 2 fights, and after that, coming up with the nickname "CEO of EPO" for Usman. Clever nickname, but I always thought it was a weird one, given that, I hear EPO is great for cardio, not power, and Usman was a guy stacked with muscle and strength and known for having good cardio for a wrestler

If that fight was five rounds Colby would've finished Maia.

Colby fought Maia BEFORE Usman did by the way who fought Maia right after this in a five rounder and never came close to stopping him.

In fact, Maia took Usman's back in the 1st round and was saved by the referee who stupidly separated them in one of the worst ref calls ever.

Maia even rocked Usman on the feet once, there used to be a GIF for it but I can't find it now.

I don't want to remember when Maia boxed with Anderson. :(

Colby beat the dog shit out of him in the next two rounds though. I remember Maia whopping Rory in the first round but then just fell off. His cardio at WW was frustrating at times

It wasn't terrific at 185 either. I guess he was just one of those guys that didn't have great cardio for whatever reason.

Yes. I remember. Colby made Maia look like a K1 fighter in the first round. Then Maia started gassing, badly.

And pain commenced instead. I don't really know what to do with him as a fighter.
Always hated him but that part never got played out fully because of his inactivity.
Really weird guy! You kinda want to know what is going on in his brain!
Weirding Trump out like that!
It takes something special. A bit of a enigma!

And with that I of course mean

Enigma, Georgia

Town in Berrien County, Georgia, United States
Enigma is a town in Berrien County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,278 at the 2010 census, and 1,058 in 2020. The origin of the name "Enigma" is obscure; the name is itself an enigma.

Anyone from that place please raise your hand!

In b4 whatever delusional Colby fans there are left try to claim Maia is an underrated striker and that this was a huge win <lmao>
I don't think anyone would claim that. Maia was a good win though. Sounds like Colby lives rent free in ur head, brother

Maia beat the shit out of Rory for a round...on the ground (he landed a single decent combo on the feet). There's a big difference.
Rory was the guy who outstruck grapplers and outgrappled strikers....long before Ian Garry came around.

I've heard people say Maia was a good win for Belal...and that was 4 years after the Colby fight, when Maia was 44 and in his final fight. You very rarely get objective analysis around here. 95% is emotions and groupthink.

It's similar to Brock beating Couture. People said he beat up an undersized old man. Yet when Big Nog beat Randy a year or two later, it was an "incredible win" that proved Big Nog may be winning the HW belt soon.
