Throwback You guys remember Kenny Florini?

I guess his high point was elbowing, who was it, Joe Lauzon ? Yeah he was solid, never champ material, but solid. Took Aldo to a decision. But interesting that nowadays Kenny Florian is some OG name like people don´t just say Kenny but say do you remember that one Kenny Florini guy .
Ya he took that whole "elbows cut" thing a bit too far, after he beat Leben and I think at least 2 others with em. Walking in patting them, like a WWF wrestler.

But hey, he was a kid on Cloud 9 living his dream. Who can blame him :)

It was a memory, someone actually said that. Maybe the guy was trolling, came off serious so it was funny.

I wonder if Sudoku still fights, or is his name Sudokoudju.

Edit : + epic avatar, best HW fight of ever
Sudoku...lol. Funny shit:-)

It’s funny cuz if I were to look at him today, I don’t think he’s particularly large for featherweight. IIRC he’s like 5’9 and not super muscular.

You would be wrong.

Kenny was rail skinny, shredded and bone dry on the scale making 145lbs. Don't confuse height with size, Kenny's frame was big for the division and it was a very difficult weight cut.

It's gotten much easier to cut weight over time though that's a fact.

While this is true, Kenny wasn't making this cut in the dark ages. He's a smart and educated guy and went about the weight cut with long preparation and research. This was a stretch cut for someone his size today.

Another huger over achiever

I was a fan after he was fighting 185’ers on TUF just to get looked at and get signed one day

He developed a nasty stand-up game to go along with his already dangerous ground-game

Was basically forced to try and cut weight as a solution to losing to top guys but he quit at a good time which is admirable

Over achiever is a stretch, anybody that fights Drew Fitcket to a majority draw in there 3rd pro fight is talented.

This is pretty much the perfect Kenny Florian summary.

Smart, hard working over achiever that had excellent technique in preparation making up for a lack of athletic gifts. The cut to featherweight was really about getting a belt, once it became clear he was just shy of that level at 155lbs. Solidly top 10 contender, not among the very best however.

His other gigs outside the cage allowed him to get out in time. Its a bummer so many of his peers are unable or unwilling to do the same.

Keyney Florini is a legeng of the sport ah. He make a couple bad decision outside the sport but Mario and Luigi love Keyney Florini. But he will always be a Luigi. Like a hat that don't fit or a mat where you cannota sita.

He just randomly popped up in my head. I know he had 3 title fights and a bunch of good fights, but it’s been so long I forget his fighting style besides being a southpaw.

I just remember when he was fight week for Aldo. At the time it was kind of a big deal making weight for Kenny. He was considered big for featherweight and I remember he had to diet pretty strictly.

I also remember Aldo having some hard weight cuts at fw too. And now hes not even a featherweight for todays standards.
Funny how the game changes

I was thinking of making a similar thread the other day. It seemed he was a real pet of Dana's, but fell short of expectations. Was then gifted a commentary type job (?) until he plagiarised blatantly. Someone said he was doing commentary for Robot Wars or something, but Don't know if that was a joke.

Remember he did a walk out in a yellow Bruce Lee track suit lol. I tried but failed to find a photo of it.

I think most people gave him the first round against aldo. he lost every other round but a few were very close. great fighter. Especially in that guida performance as was already mentioned. His boxing looked very crisp in that one and he finished guida in the second. guida was a hard guy to put away back then.

Do you remember Big Nig XD XD. Don´t ban me mods, someone legit made a thread and didn´t know to say Big Nog for Minotauro Noguiera. I apologize guys in advance.

I was gonna say same thing lol, but was too scared. I think it was just a typo in the title, and was hilarious.

WHO WANTS TO SEE FIGHTS FINISHED AT 155? I FINISH FIGHTS

I liked Kenny. He was a great fighter and had some great fights and finished. Particularly liked the Guida sequence into the finish. It’s too bad he got blacklisted for plagiarizing smh
Wasn’t that speech after his fight at UFC 73 which ended up being the “Main Event“ if order and precedent mean anything 😂
