Throwback You guys remember Jake Ellenberger?

Yes, I remember everyone from UFC who has ever responded to me on Twitter: Lorenzo Fertitta, Jon Anik, Pat Berry, Jake Ellenberger
I need to know more about this

He was awesome but the loss to Kampmann completely broke him.

Damn that was really crafty for Condit to avoid being finished there.

I was high on Ellenburger at the time. Really thought he could become champ. If I recall correctly he like fell off a cliff suddenly and just didn't look the same.

Thought he was going to be a champion after he koed Pele landi. His fight with condit is an absolute classic too.i remember when he got stopped by kampmann and never really built the same level as momentum.

Great fighter for a bit, but just like others from that era he completely fell off a cliff.

That era and those particular fighters need to be studied because it is strange what occurred, prime example being Hendricks.

He was sooo close to finishing Condit multiple times in the first round. In fact, even in a of his losses he managed to hurt his opponent. I think afer those losses he tried a more measured approach, but I think that was pretty counter productive. I suspect he probably could have turned some of those losses into wins if he still would have leaned into that wrecking ball mentality.

He was a great wrecking ball. Unfortunately, he was only a great wrecking ball.

I used to watch that fight all the time. Great scrap. At the same time that ellenberger dropped him the first time, condit lands a nasty knee to the gut that buckled ellenberger for a second or two and maybe saved condit otherwise ellenberger would have followed up with ground and pound even quicker.

I liked Jake. He and Hendicks peaked around the same time and had some similarities. Both were very dangerous. I believe Ellenberger KO'd Jake Shields around the same time that Hendricks KO'd Fitch...both in Round 1. Jake was more of a front-runner though. Hendricks was able to fight in several 5 rounders against Lawler and GSP. Jake was usually exhausted and spent by Round 2. He also didn't have Hendricks' wrestling pedigree though I think he wrestled a bit in college, too.

I wanted to see Ellenberger vs. Hendricks, though. The first round would've been absolutely wild and either one could've KO'd the other in their primes.
