I think he was hoping for a mutually respectful build up. At the start all he did was praise Tony and talk about his legacy and how he's an inspiration and a top 5 LW ever.

Then Tony just talks endless shit about Paddy and blocks him on IG. And even then Paddy's initial response was light hearted. Just saying "Tony what have I done to you lad?".

Then at the press conference it seemed like Paddy just wanted to get through it without any incidents. But Tony just wouldn't leave it be, he had to try to make all the headlines by going after Colby first and then Paddy repeatedly. So in the end Paddy just gave up and gave Tony exactly what he was looking for.

He isn't getting any headlines because of Colby but Paddy eviscerated Tony in the trash talk and low key won the press conference.

The build up has actually switched my opinion. I started off wanting a Tony redemption arc but now I just want Paddy to win by bowel releasing KO and retire him for good.
