You are probably already rich

For me to be rich I'd need to be working a lot less, and doing more hobbies. Thankfully, I do get to spend a lot of time with my kids.
 
I am actually considered among the top 20% in the US. But that means noting these days because anyone in the lower 80% has almost nothing. I still struggle month to month.
 
Even if you’re rich, you won’t feel rich because inflation likely took a toll on you….. and calling people out for being rich because they exceed their peers is a bit silly, there are levels to this, 500K income with a large family living in California is well off, not rich. 500K income single guy in Florida is in a way better position yet not rich enough to have a reason to buy off a politician.

To me, someone who is rich has enough wealth to start using their wealth as power.
 
To live away from my parents, while also steadily providing them money so they don't have to work anymore in their sixties.
That's very much a work in progress. I don't want to spend anymore years in school if I can help it - which means writing to market, I suppose.
 
  • Cost of living is something I don't have to think about, especially if there's a family involved.
  • Can give kids extra curriculars without batting an eye.
  • Pay for college.
 
I grew up poor. I lived in the ghetto, ate hotdogs + mac and cheese for dinner, clothes were hand me downs or from goodwill. There is nothing inherently wrong with that.....

Being rich to me would be having enough money to chase some "grand opportunities" without having to worry about short term income.
 
I'm definitely rich by the standards we had when I was a kid. I grew up in the 80's. If you had $1m net worth people thought you were rich.

Right now I'm well over that. But I'm 50 and I don't think you're actually rich anymore unless you have more than $10m.

It's funny how it works. If you would have told me as a kid I would own $800k in property alone I would be like "damn i'm fucking scrooge mcduck!" but now I'm like yeah, I'm defintely not paycheck to to paycheck and I will probably be able to retire but even with doing fair well i'm one major life event away from working until i'm 80...lol
 
Being rich is based on perspective. You can have the bare minimums and still feel rich in a sense. You just live by your means and feel great about it, all the power to you.

You can be a billionaire and still feel not rich or not feel satisfaction.

There no set dollars to say your rich or not imo. It's highly subjective.

The internet tells me I earn more than 99% of the world's workers and 87.5% of US workers. I feel sorry for them, cuz I'm definitely not rich.
But honestly while most days I'm pretty thankful, that is frequently interrupted by feelings of inadequacy when I see sooooo many with bigger homes, newer cars, taking more vacations, wearing nicer clothes......I know I'm better off than most, but it doesn't feel like it.

The cliches are true though. I'm happily married, my kids are all healthy and happy, both my parents (Mom's 80) and my in-laws are alive and well, we all have a stable and safe homes to live in, and enough (if not plenty) income for all the things we need and some of the things we want. So, yeah, historically and globally, I'm doing OK. Still not rich....
 
I feel like I'm in a weird spot. On paper I look better than what I feel or can afford but at the same time, if I was single, I wouldn't really need to work.
 
I went from making 6 figures a year , to barely 5. its tough times here. Im trying to pivot to something more lucrative but already feel like i'm spread too thin as it is. Luckily i paid off my house and got solar when i was making decent money so my overhead is low.
 
I would be considered rich by most of the world . But in America im middle to upper middle class. Its all perspective
 
According to Google, in order to be in the top 1% in the entire world by income, you'd only need to make 60-100K

Raised by single mother in the 70's and 80's. I lived in an efficiency apartment, my bedroom was a closet. I know what it's like to come home from school and not have any power. Every year my mom either made my Halloween costume or I went without. My wife and I, in college, were rolling change up, selling books to half price, mowing lawns for the neighbors so we wouldn't get evicted. I got off my job throwing boxes at UPS to go to my other job as a fucking telemarketer. We had a goddamn Hyundai excel with hand crank windows and it was massive upgrade from the '74 Ford LTD her grandmother had given us.

Well, I grew up poor In a trailer park. So owning a house made me think you're rich. I own a home now and about to buy a second one. Still not rich by no means though.

According to the standards you had when you were young, you are now rich.

You just moved the goalposts when you got here so you didn't think you were rich. I say move them back and enjoy being rich, bro!
 
Yes. Most all of us in America are probably top 10% in the world. I just made that stat up though. No idea if it’s true.

I’m rich enough where I don’t worry about rent or food or shelter or if my car breaks down if I can fix it or not. If I want stuff when browsing Amazon I just buy it and don’t worry about it. If I’m hungry and a sandwich for lunch if $14 I just buy it.

But I’m still aware of my spending habits and live within my means. I’m not making it rain at the club or anything.
