it's basically just a reverse ezekiel choke. i learned it from shaolin when i was in rio last month. you do have to have an arm from underneath and pull up on it to get it to work, which is why it sort of looks like an arm triangle

Looked like a modified version of kata hajime, as Tank wasn't wearing a gi, so no lapel to grab, so Yoshida used his sleeve instead.
That's what came to my mind anyway.

beleive me it is tight, i just cracked when i saw yoshi use that choke to get tank, it's one of my personal favorites

Some other guys were also calling it a version of kata ha-jime, but with kata ha-jime the "single wing" is being lifted up by the non-choking hand, whereas the arm is trapped by the choking arm in Yoshida's choke. And the grip is sode guruma for sure, just done from behind with the arm inside.

So for you 2 guys who've already used it, is an air choke, or a blood choke? Is tanks own shoulder cutting off a carotid, or is his windpipe getting crushed?

the point of pressure is yoshida's left hand...which makes it a blood choke i guess. if it's tight, you'll have a hard time breathing too though. the ezekiel type motion that you make with the right hand serves to increase the pressure on the neck by the left hand that holds the gi sleeve. it's weird but it works

It's just a variation of Sode Jime. It's nearly the exact same choke he uses against everyone, except this time it's from the back with an arm in single wing style. Sode Jime.

if he is, then i have no idea how that choke works....i guess maybe you could do that with your lappel though i dunno

Funky choke. It looks like Tank could have used his right (free) hand to peel Yoshida's grip apart from the gi which would at the very least decrease the pressure being applied setting up a possible escape.

no he couldn't, just because you don't knoe how a gi choke works don't hate it, ive seen the same choke being used alot in teh mundials etc, it's legit and yes he uses his sleeve just like the ezekiel i think bubbel boy just hit the spot.

Hmmmmm. Still think he should have at least tried to peel the grip apart or try to work the fingers in between the gi and pry away; a feeble attempt to escape is better than no attempt at all. On the other hand, you could possibly be right re: the sweet spot. I'm pretty familiar with gi chokes.

he tried to get his foot loose and it's only a matter of secs before you could pass out form a tight gi choke like that especially if youre gassing like tank..
