Abe Kawa says that when the team found out they would get an extra 2 hours in Chicago if Yoel missed weight, they planned the cut around not making 185 at the first weigh-in on purpose.

(about 25mins in, but it's live so I can't stamp it)

...and they're talking about suing the Commission for not giving them the full extra 2 hours which they expected to get.

Wow. Does anyone not think that's a problem entirely of their own creation?

Use every advantage you can get.

He missed weight. It's entirely the fault of his and his team.

Well, if they were officially told that they could have a second try with no consequences, I'm not sure I'd blame them for using that opportunity and getting pissed that they weren't actually given that opportunity.

No because it's within the rules and the UFC having early morning weigh-ins is stupid. The commission stepping in and stopping them from having the complete 2 hours they were allowed by the commission's own rules is worthy of throwing a lawsuit since Yoel lost a significant portion of his purse and lost a POTN bonus.

Wow..... wow..... If I were Yoel I would not be playing ANY games around weight. My lord.

I honestly feel that if he was eligible for the title the judges would have looked at those rounds differently. I'm sure they knew the shit show that woudl be created if Yoel won. Had to be in the back of their minds... they are human after all

You can't blame someone for taking advantage of the rules as long as they're clearly defined. What you can't do is change the rules as you go.

It's always shady when someone tries to play by finding loopholes in laws or policies or rules or what have you, but it's within their right to do so entirely.

However, if a commission stopped the weight cut, that was allowed under so called policy or rules that was communicated to the party without just reason, then it would present a good case of a wrongdoing on the commission part.

There's really no concrete evidence to support or discard their claim of commission stopping their weight cut, but I do not have any reason to not give them the benefit of the doubt of that happening, especially with commission not commenting on their side of story yet with this day and age of social media and so called hyenas, I mean journalists.

I do agree that Romero got fucked over, probably twice in one night.

I know it is little: only 0.2 lbs. But they planned to miss weight? wtf. Make Romero go to 205.

I like how during his post fight interview in the cage he said that the commission is against him because he missed weight and that's why they made him lose the fight, like it's all a big conspiracy, while his coach was pointing his finger at him and nodding as in to say "yeah he's right commission is against us yo!".

But for fuck sake just don't fucking miss weight all the time and you won't have to argue with the commission.

Illinois commission is obviously crooked. Someone else here mentioned longstanding mafia ties

All the excuses in here are sad.

Both right and wrong at the same time.

You need to make weight and not take any chances rather than assuming you'll be granted a second chance.
But at the same time, if they promise a certain amount of time, they need to let yoel have the full two hours.

He was wronged, but he could have easily avoided this like every other fighter on the card did.

At the end of the day, he only has himself to blame, as everyone else made weight.

If the AC was a professional organization I would assume there is some verbiage in their rulebook along the lines that the extra 2 hours is at the discretion of the commission and the commission reserves the right to deny the fighter their second weigh in/ modify the second window for any reason. In which case Romero's team deserves what they get, live by the sword etc...

However AC's are not always the most professional *cough* so who knows. Would love to see the official rule book of the Illinois AC.

Well we all know that commissions stop fighters cutting weight all the time when they don't like how things are going, so planning on purpose to cut weight in front of them and their doctors just seems super dumb to me. I hear what you're saying though.

Eh, if you (try to) exploit the rules to the maximum, then you shouldn't whine too loud about "getting fucked over" when it doesn't go your way, imo.

When he hit the scales again, the Cuban came in .2 lbs overweight but claims the commission only gave him one hour to cut the extra weight.

“I needed two hours, and the commission would only give me one,” Romero said in response to the criticism, per MMA Junkie’s Steven Marrocco. “It was the commission’s decision.”

He was still in the process of cutting weight when the commission decided to be asshats.

So the corrupt commission went back on their word?

Yoel was robbed twice that night, the decision and the purse.

You say exploit, I say follow.
