Yoel was receiving at least $150K to show

I wouldn't say yoel is a star.. Without ufc logo and the help of a stacked card, he would sell less than 5k Ppv.

A star imo is someone who could sell at least 500k Ppv and a megastar is at least 1+million ppv ala Mike Tyson.

Conor is pretty much the only guy who could sell 500k Ppv without ufc logo and a stacked card.

He can now bring in 10 unknown mediocre fighters while promising them the chance of being able to lease a Range Rover one day.

He is a star, and a popular guy. People tune in to see him. He is worth much more than 150 to show. Several companies should want to pay this for him.

There is however one issue... Romero is not as dominant as people like to think. He is often losing until he explodes. If he doesn’t catch his opponent in the third, there is a good chance he will lose a decision. Then it might not be such a good deal for the promotion...

Without the random testing, the majority of guys in the other promotions will probably have better chins and durability. I think he might struggle.

Standard money for standard UFC champion/challenger. It's the same for everybody, whether fair or not.

Considering 3 of his last 4 fights were for titles it's not like he wasn't getting paid.

I guess he figured he's run out of chances.

At 50 bucks a PPV or is it 60? I say 3k more people buy if Yoel is on the card instead of a contender series no name can. Can't understand that financially speaking.

Edit: hell probably more than 3k Cubans in Miami would purchase alone
$65. But! You gotta pay ESPN the exclusivity fee of $50/yr to have the privilege to give them $65.

He was worth every penny ...are u kidding me ?
Now it's just a matter of age and when they fall, its usually an acute drop..... especially someone who has used.

Headlining PPVs watched by millions of people around the world and the UFC only pay $150k to one of its stars, they’re a bunch of scummy fucks
Yeah 150 for a fighter his level really isn't shit.

I edited my post to make it more accurate why this thread is a farce.

But it wasn't. He missed weight, so it wasn't a title fight for him. Anyway, he made 350K to show in 4 fights, got gifted a bunch of TS's and lost all of them or cheated himself out of it. He also made like close to 30 million from his lawsuit, allegedly. Poor, poor Romero.
Cmon bud. Those payouts aren't that much and he's not getting any 30 mil from that lawsuit, which also has nothing to do with his ufc pay.

150k is Dana Hooker funds...let's be real...

P.S. Prolly the worst cut choice similar to Moose and Rory.....I guess...
Rory wasnt cut, he was being offered peanuts and he went to Bellator, similar to Moose iirc, Romero got cut.

It seems he never got the lawsuit money, he made 350 + 30 on Izzy fight and probably made the same on the others.

For some reason always say everyone that leaves the ufc got cut. Even guys that leave on wins like arlovski and bader.

I mean at this point I’d rather have Yoel around than Fedor and Wanderei. But Bellator got that Viacom money, if they want him they’ll pick him up.
But essentially Yoel won a bunch of money off that lawsuit, I’m sure he’s not hurting for cash right now.

I think Machida had a fair offer from the UFC and still went with Bellator cause he had given his word to Coker, only a few actually get cut, most dont sign back.

Quite a sum back in the old days. They're on espn every week now getting good ratings. Our perception of what is quite a sum should change now for ufc fighters especially the top ones like yoel

A lot of guys just get lowballed when it's time to resign so they leave. Bader, Bendo, Moose, Rory, Arlovski, Hendo, etc. It's a pretty long list.

People keep saying this but winning a settlement doesn't mean you magically get that money. Supplement companies dissappear overnight all the time. It's a shady business. The odds he actually gets paid off that lawsuit are low. He sued to protect his reputation, not for a huge payday.

It makes no sense from the UFCs perspective to invest in a guy who is in his mid 40s and who will never touch a title in his lifetime. Sucks if you are a Romero fan but come on, dude is only going to decline from here on out

My question is what were the details of his release? This wasn’t like some other big names released he still had multiple fights left on his contract. Did the UFC buy his contract out or are they actually just able to kick a guy to the curb with a current contract with no consequences.

In a real professional sports league, if you cut a guy with a current contract you either absorb it and buy him out or come to some sort of financial agreement that works for both sides. Of course all other pro leagues have a union as well.

If the ufc was able to just null his contract without any consequences to them then this is just sad. Especially when it’s one of the bigger names in the sport.

As a talent deserves even more than 350k for sure.
I think the ufc decision is based on age, marketability as a contender, and the fact that he could still beat any up-and-comer
