We all know how McGregor's claims of a title fight upon his return is completely laughable, right? Or are they?

He's been talking about it in every interview he's had for 8 months, and mentioned it a dozen times on twitter. He's dead serious. But is he delusional or know something we don't?

Lets look at current champions in all the weight classes he's fought in the UFC, McGregor's possible opponents -

A3BAD5C0-0990-4189-995B-EB3D49FE2253-1024x683.jpeg

Usman - Welterweight/170 champion. He's a complete nightmare for McGregor on both the feet and ground, with huge height, reach, and size advantages.

1212447648.jpg.0.jpg

Oliveria - Lightweight/155 champion. He beat Poirier who beat McGregor twice. A title shot against him would be a joke.

R.319d4d791278851714abadf7b931741d

Volkinovski - Featherweight/145 champion. He's on a 20-fight win streak, McGregor would get pieced up at this point.

So....

None of these three are going to be McGregor's opponent when he returns. That's for certain.

190 pounds? There's no chance he's planning a cut to 145, extremely unlikely at 155 if he's planning on keeping the muscle, but as big as he is a fight at 170 is overwhelming likely with his new bulk.

So... who has a title that Mcgregor would want that isn't a champion in those weight classes?

Hmmmm.....

Think about it.

McGregor is the #1 PPV draw in the UFC, but his credibility is compromised by now having a 1-4 in combat sports since Obama was in office. So he's been has been hyping up a superfight against the #2 PPV draw.

Both fighters's popularity has survived despite their losses, and Masvidal has two in a row (possibly a 3rd after Saturday)... and a belt around his waist.

McGregor is more interested in big money than a new belt around his waist, and a win over Masvidal would give him both.

He has a small chance against Charles. The rest extremely little chance. I won’t buy any PPV with Connor headlining though after his rant after losing to Poirier and threatening his kids and family.

Bro, the BMF belt was just a one time thing just for fun. It really wasn't meant to be taken this seriously.

Its more about PPV numbers than the belt, big money.

But that's what McGregor has been hinting at in every interview for the last 8 months.

Its all about hype and marketing.

Usman vs McGregor would be a one-sided demolition job. Connor would get absolutely destroyed.

The only title fight he has a chance in is vs Volkanovski.

Tell everyone you didn't click on the spoiler tag without saying you didn't click on the spoiler tag.

No chance vs Usman. V little vs Oliveira. He could give Volk a decent fight if he could possibly make 145 again. Although I think he is too old, gained too much weight, and way too rich to actually sculpt his body, lean up, and make a cut down to 145 again.
That's the only division he was really good in. Since moving up to 155 he has been very average and now he's washed, old, and injured.
Sad to see how far he's fallen. He was exciting af when he was coming up. He does not truly have a championship mindset though.

I feel like people aren't really reading your thread or are just kinda missing the point.

@GearSolidMetal

I'm considering removing the spoiler tags.

Anyway, I mostly made the thread so I can bump it with...

...when I'm proven to be right.

Edit - Fine, I'm removing the spoiler tags because apparently most people don't know how to click on them.

The crossover fanbase that makes up the overwhelming bulk of McGregor's PPV buys, they are not even casual fans but rather people that only tune in when McGregor is fighting, don't care about a fighter's credibility or the sport's integrity. It's pointless to harp on the integrity of the sport, MMA has always had aspects of pro wrestling promotion in it and very likely always will.

McGregor isn't just the #1 PPA draw, he's several tiers above anyone else. McGregor was KO'd after being soundly defeated thoughout his second fight with Poirier, but did that negatively affect McGregor's drawing power? No, it actually resulted in more people watching McGregor vs Poirier 3, which did 1.8 million buys to become the second highest selling PPV is UFC history. So why would McGregor losing again negatively affect his drawing power with people that don't care about the sport? It wouldn't.

Even more of those crossover fans are going to want to see McGregor return from breaking his leg. His next fight could very well do around 2 million buys. When you can make the company that kind of money, you get whatever fight you want. He is going to choose to fight the winner of Oliveira and Gaethje for the title.

Lol.
When your point fails to deliver with anyone perhaps it's the point nobody cares about.

I doubt anyone read the body of your text.

Dana already said conor might get the title shot so all of this thread is pointless beyond coming in to laugh at the effort you put into the OP.

Some are saying McGregor is around 185 to 190 here. There's no chance he's planning a cut to 145, maybe 155, but as big as he is a fight at 170 is most likely with his new bulk.

How are Mcgregors instant title shot claims laughable?? do you not follow UFC closely? People might think it's undeserved etc, but it's hardly a surprise to anyone and everyone will watch and buy the PPV, which is all that should matter. It's sports entertainment and no one is more entertaining in or out of the cage than Conor.

No one finds his claims laughable or a shock, just many will feel it's unjustified.

*1-4 record in combat sports since Obama left office.
*1-3 record at LW in the UFC. 0-2 recent record against Poirier, who just lost to Oliveria.
*2-1 record at WW, and his last win was against an unranked opponent on a 3-fight losing streak.
*Hasn't fought at FW in 6+ years.

Meanwhile, Masvidal...
*Last win was against Nate Diaz, roughly 27 months ago.
*0-2 losing streak. (Possibly 0-3 after Saturday)
*Still the #2 PPV draw in the UFC.
*Has a belt around his waist.

*There isn't another likely opponent in the UFC with a belt and would be a PPV draw.

There's never been two HUGE PPV draws that fought in the same division.

You talk about Conor's 'bulk' but forget that in all those photos he wears clothes that are 2 sizes too small and always is flexing or doing that weird pose with his neck. Conor may have added muscle but he hasn't added height or reach, which fighting real 170lbers or at 185 would destroy him. I am sure he will fondle the balls of Dana enough though to get a title shot, but the world really doesn't want it.

Dana will make a 165 division and just give him the belt....

<{danayeah}>

That's a possibility, but improbable.

If Dana was going to make a 165 division, with all of the fighters early too big for 155 or too small for 170, he would have done it by now.

He should just kill himself to get back to 145, that was the weight class that made him a star. At LW and WW he’s very entertaining but just doesn’t seem to be able to hang with the top dogs.

I think he’d have a chance against Volkanovski.
