I propose that UFC implement a program similar to USDA that would require fighters to weigh in randomly throughout the year even when they are out of competition. They would have to be within some sort of tolerance , say 10% of their official weight class. For example, if you are a welterweight then you would have to be at 187 or lighter. Of course there would be exceptions for injuries or if fighting outside your normal weight class, and I'm sure there are other details that I'm overlooking. But, it would prevent fighters from blowing up 25-30 pounds above their weight class between fights and then killing themselves to make weight. Just a thought...

How bout this

If they make the weight they can fight at that weightclass

Some people gain and lose weight really easy and some guys stay close to their fight/in shape weight.Everyone's different. There's weight cutting,it's part of the sport so just stop.

sounds good in theory but it's not how the fight game works ( mma/boxing)

USADA? No, it's UFATTA.

awesome! yes, I think there are testing facilities in every major city that could be contracted to independently perform the random weigh-ins paid for by the UFC to get a handle on these training camp overages. I'd like to see something like what you've suggested change the 'gaming' that training camps use to bridge an enormous weight difference between training and fight day.

PEDs are part of the sport too. Now we have an extremely expensive testing protocol that we all accept. A new training weigh-in protocol could make the same type of difference. We are not asking for perfection, only a way to limit how training camp 'game' the weight cuts with sometimes life-threatning consequences. A new protocol could change the culture over time.

Does this prevent kidney failure, due to extreme weight cutting? The current system puts the pressure on and these fighters will do whatever it takes. Let's change that, if we can.

the training game of bulking up and then rocketing down is what we aim to fix. Random training weigh-ins could help change that.
I agree- sounds good in theory are the operative words I chose, however.......
