anyone had any success with this?

ive been trying this a lot over the past few weeks. my biggest problem is that i have them so off balance that they usually just fall over before i get the chance to actually take the back

Try single leg X. I've had more success to the back that way.

i do that too, but im obsessed with getting this move down

I play a lot of x guard and yeah I've done this but honestly this turns into a real scramble. When they fall, are they falling backward? If so, that's just some of what you are looking for in x guard. Just take the sweep. For this move you really need them to base out forward with their hands on the mat. I've found that people just don't usually react like that. But sometimes they do and then you can go for this.

Slick, but yeah like DrJitsu said, it's situational.

Marcelo teaches techniques as reactions to reactions. He would likely have other techniques from the same entry/position available on mginaction that would account for all the possible reactions.

Try passing the leg by your head over it, then spinning to face their back. I think it works a whole lot better.

This, if you're looking for a higher-percentage back-take from x guard.

As others have already mentioned- this is a reaction to when you are going for a takedown sweep from the Xguard and the opponents knee frees itself. If you are doing the sweep correctly, your head will be next to their knee, and they will not have a chance to turn their knee out.

It's great to have this technique in your repertoire- but to focus on this wouldnt seem to make much sense to me.
