Huge Sean fan (see my sig) but the only round he won was the 5th. How the hell did two judges give him the 3rd round?

I just hate that kind of shit.

public

They were hoping he would legit win a single round of the 5. That way they could defensibly award him a split decision. See the two scorecards of 48-47 with him winning ZERO rounds? So yeah if he won ONE round, they'd feel that it'd be enough.

Then the PR posters would be on here lol'ing and trying to shame dissenting opinions that it was rigged. See the Yan fight for an example.

Luckily Sean won a grand total of 0 so they couldn't even attempt it. Despite him not winning any round they still were shameless enough that two of them had it 48-47. You couldn't script any more a blatant example of fight fixing.

He did win that round. Most fans watching agree. In fact more people thought won rd 3 than rd 5

Rds 3 & 5 were very competitive. Sean hurting Merab earns him rd 5, I thought Merab edged rd 3 but no issue if anyone scored it for Sean.

The real issue with the scoring of this fight is not giving Merab a 10-8 in rd 4. 74-7 in strikes + 4 mins of top control. Absolutely lopsided

Verdict is a bit of a joke and I don't really believe that. How many voters is that at that point? Cuz over on MMAdecisions, only 85 out of 309 people think Sean won the third, vs 224 people thinking he won the 5th

Sean absolutely destroyed Merab in that 3rd round

Sherdog has gone full retard.

I feel about the same about both guys. Rounds 3 and 5 coulda went to either man

I fell asleep on the fight so I'm not necessarily talking about this one but I feel to deserve a 10-8 you've got to have your opponent hurt.

I would have to rewatch to feel 100% confident, but watching it live, I gave Sean the 3rd and the 5th. I believe Sean landed the more meaningful strikes in the 3rd and he clearly damaged Merab in the 5th.

What upsets some people is the resulting 48-47 score, because obviously it doesn't paint a very good picture of how the fight went as a whole. That's the round-by-round scoring system though.

O’Malley was on his feet for 1 minute of the round so they gave it to him.

Tons of people had money on sean that's why

I thought when the fight ended we’d see at least one 48-47. O’Malley unquestionably won the 5th. The two 48-47s make the fight seem much closer on paper than in reality

I remember thinking Sean probably got the round on a card or two.

Merab had very little control time in that round and got hit with some shots. It was just a really uneventful round in general.

He had Sean turtled up multiple times from ground in pound eating unanswered shots. The dominance & duration alone are enough, let alone the damage.

And Herb was clearly on the take too. I'm so glad O'Malley is gone... the comparisons to McGregor are beyond asinine. His boring personality begins with his stupid tattoos and ends with his stupid hair color. Slightly above average fighter with no wrestling who ran out of favorable opponents. He'll never be the champion again. Good f'ing riddance.

My take is round 3 was a 50/50. could go either way. I'd personally edge Merab (phrasing) but i could see a clear argument for Sean given he landed some strikes and controlled the centre more - so damage had no clear winner, but pressure and acitivty edged Sean.

Round 5 I'd give to Sean. Some control from Merab, and some decent striking, but not damaging. Seans striking (the front teep specifically but also a couple of punches) were clearly effective with Merab reacting strongly to 2 teeps and less strongly to 2 further. So per the damage criteria, Sean wins imo.

49-46 or 48-47

No round was a 10-8 - none close enough to sustained, effective damage or threat of fight ending submission/striking to justify the 10-8. I fully realise that rounds are scored at end of round and irrespective of other rounds, but the behaviour of sean after each round shows 10-9 is proven correct.
edit: importantly to note! despite a 48-47 seeming close on paper, there is literally no way it could've been a draw for Sean or a Sean victory. 48-47 doesnt imply close, it implies a 48-47 at best. Merab won the fight so clearly based on both overall fight scoring (fan-centric) and also the actual rules despite the rules being a bit shit.
