"The world is difficult to explain sometimes. Tensions run high, and nations become entrenched. But humans... people... men and women... we can find ways to exercise our frustrations in a productive (or at least non-destructive) way. Sport can often be that outlet.
Team Relentless of India and
Fight Fortress Islamabad of Pakistan will bring forth their representatives at
WSOF Global 3: Philippines at the end of this month. The two athletes are preparing to do the very best they can to succeed in what we call "a battle". But it is not that truly. It is a contest.
It is a contest of skill wherein both men are almost certainly assured to walk away with mere bumps and bruises on the body. Each walks away with respect for one another for bravery shown.
This is the beauty of competition. The genesis of these two men competing is not in hate, but in love. Love of the challenge. Love of the opportunity to overcome fear and adversity. And love for the oppoenent who allows opportunity to test one's self truly and without fear of unnecessary loss. Because of their bravery we all gain a chance to be entertained, and a glimpse into how people can be as one in even a display of conflict.
I hope the people of
Pakistan and
India who watch this event rejoice in the competition. I hope they each rejoice in the rivalry. And I hope they come together to enjoy this as fans of great displays of strength and bravery. I hope in some small way it brings them to a common ground to enjoy together.
