Wrestling help (i suck)!!!!!!!!????

theres a bunch of kids at my high school that nevr shoot and have done pretty good for someone not shooting whats your weight cuz alot of the heavy weight like to clinch up but all the like weights never do

First, how do i shoot the double leg? Also how do I finish the double, do I lift them up or kinda drag them to the ground etc. AND how do I get deep enough on the shot?

Check out flowrestling for Jordan Burroughs matches. He just won his second national championship this past spring and is now on the world team. He shoots some of the most unstoppable doubles I've ever seen.

Damn kids these days.

Coming from the kid who lied about his body fat % and told everyone he can stop a wrestler's takedowns with his hands alone. :icon_chee

I really suck at wrestling. I'm good at judo (if i can get into the clinch which every time I try to initiate the clinch the other guys shoots). I'm pretty good at hip tosses, sweeps, head throws etc. BUT I suck at the basic fundamentals at wrestling the double leg, single leg, and sprawling. First, how do i shoot the double leg? I know they teach you to put your knee down first but why do I see MMA fighters not touching there Knee to the ground? Do I have to Touch my knee because I would think you'd get less power that way? Also how do I finish the double, do I lift them up or kinda drag them to the ground etc. AND how do I get deep enough on the shot?

Another thing is my single...Do i grab the ankle or the knee? Should I just sweep the other leg as I've been doing(outside or inside depending on the situation if i have the leg between mine or if i have it to the outside)?

For somebody who knows nothing of wrestling, you're actually asking the right questions-- which is a good start.

Most people come in and say "I don't know how to wrestle because I'm not strong and how do you do a belly-to-belly suplex, those are awesome" or something stupid.

You're asking the right questions. Particularly the MMA v. classic wrestling question, which is actually a pretty interesting discussion. However, on occasion, Jon Jones has shot with a drop-knee double, and I've seen videos of GSP doing it in sparring, though never in competition or a fight.

I'll let the wrestlers in here answer the questions though, since they can do it a lot better than me.

I'm at 125 right now. I like to clinch up but nobody does at my weight. But usually when I get into the clinch enough times I'll win that match-up. I just need to work at my fundamentals...And I wrestle folk-style so whats up with the Referee letting the kid have time to breath when I hip toss him and slam him (gives me dirty look)?

Found a couple videos that might help:

Double Leg: YouTube - ‪Barry Davis Double-Leg Takedowns, Part 1‬‏
Single: YouTube - ‪Barry Davis Wrestling Single-Leg Takedowns‬‏

You shouldn't have trouble tying up either. The fact that you said that your opponent shoots when you try to initiate the clinch tells me that you are either too upright in your stance, reaching with both arms at once, or both. Until you've managed to tie-up, you have to maintain your defense, meaning an arm to block with and your hips to sprawl with.

Also, those dirty looks you are getting is because folk-style is very particular about slams and wrestler safety in general. No doubt the referee thought the slam was too hard. Nothing more I can really say on that except know your referee's and what sort of calls to expect from them.

Not enough time to post wall of text but:
Try seeking out knoxpk and fourfif. Pretty sure these guys wrestled/teach wrestling (sorry I have a terrible memory)

@Slick

Lol, I suppose that is me. It's just a joke, though. I know I'm a dumbass teenager, too, and if you meet me in person, I'd tell you as much. But I am one of the better wrestlers in my school when I don't mind fuck myself.

As to the TS, just keep training, dude.

google USA wrestling in your city and find a club and learn to wrestle

Then, I asked Sherdoggers and one of them pointed me in the right direction with this video on YouTube called "Carl Adams Attacking the Head". Now if I can establish a dominant collar tie, I know I can take anybody down.

good stuff.

Allow me to add:

Yup. I was a hs wrestling coach and knox is currently a usa wrestling certified wrestling instructor, iirc.

You did such an excellent job on page two, there's not much to add. I would have posted the russian national team coach vids you put up anyway :icon_chee Those two are classics.

I'll throw this one in as well. Alot of good technique that translate well into wrestling, but more important than that even is the intro that explains why the 2on1 is THE superior tie for stand up grappling.

I'd say, while you wait for answers on a forum, youtube would be your best friend (Assuming you are at the level where you can notice minute details).

If not, then join a gym that has a wrestling program for sure.

flowrestling.org

learn it love it live it

that and constant practice. btw u shouldnt really touch ur knee, its more of a glide. the knee pound is just a teaching tip.

I stumbled upon this thread while lurking.

It seems to have some pretty good stuff.

If you are a beginner work on your stance and positioning first as well as hand fighting and head position. From there look through those vids and see what techniques appeal to you at first.

I'm an excellent wrestler for BJJ. That said, you have to wrestle - we literally can't answer your questions as well as if you actually trained it.

drill drill drill. its so important getting comfortable with the motion of the shot and moving on your knees. Its gotta be seemless and smooth, and you have to be able to change directions easily. Theres a reason wrestlers drill for about 45 minutes every practice, its so important.when you are drilling drill half the time really slow, making sure to get deep penetration, and your hands are in the right places, then increase the speed to where it becomes second nature
