wrestlers and judo guys pick up bjj fast, but the inverse is also true?

My opinion -

Athleticism - Wrestling
Dedication - even
Cardio - Wrestling
Creativity - BJJ
Can easily cause death or severe injury if applied full force - BJJ

The pace of wrestling is far greater than the pace of BJJ. As an older guy, it baffles me how tired I don't get, in comparison, after rolling for 4-5 eight minute sessions in comparison to say 2 rounds of takedowns (three minutes), much more tired during takedowns.

The part of the transition that I still struggle with, coming from folkstyle and freestlye wrestling, wasn't being on my back as you would hear Rogan say. It was, still is, the lack of definitive positions.

In wrestling, aside from when standing, there is an offensive and defensive position, it is clearly obvious which position you are in. In BJJ you could be vying for both positions simultaneously.

it all depends on the person. people who wrestle/judo have the advantage because they have some similarities and are competitive based. they do have some disadvantages though... some judokas have bad turtle habbits and giving up your back in bjj is a no no. wrestling and judo never want to be on their backs where as in bjj, it's all good.

Haven't posted here in years but I think I'm kinda the case you are refering to:

I started Judo around the time I got my blue belt and it was REALLY REALLY difficult. I thought I knew how to wrestle but in reality I knew nothing, I couldn't even pull an Osoto-gari properly, I was stiff and messy!!!!

Judo is definetly much more difficult to pick up...... It takes hours and hours of repetition to get things working.

One of the things I realised is that with BJJ you can pick up a lot of things from sparring, while that it is not the case Judo, only after hours and hours of Uchikomi and then drilling while on movement (can't remember how you say that in Japanese) things start to work.

I could talk for hours but IMHO it really comes down to: Judo is very difficult to pick up anyway, knowing BJJ helps but NOT much.

After 2 years of Judo I can't yet pull a proper (as in clean) Seoi-nage or any other big techical throw (Uchi mata, harai, sei/tai otoshi). I can hold myself well against strong black and brown belts but only because of my superior cardio from BJJ and running/lifting not because of my technique!

JUDO IS FUCKIN HARD!

Dude, I've trained with some very high-level grapplers and they've personally admitted that wrestling practice was physically more grueling than anything, ever.

And your argument doesn't really make sense. We're speaking in general terms, so I'm talking about most wrestlers and most BJJers. Most wrestlers are ridiculously well-conditioned and strong. Many BJJers, even high-level ones, are not necessarily as strong or well-conditioned. In fact, to be completely honest, BJJ is probably one of the laziest full contact sports ever.

And as for the original post, I completely forget to mention rules, which should be obvious. Pretty much everything you can do in wrestling is legal in BJJ. It's the exact opposite the other way.

What extremely high level Bjj players that you know of are not in top condition?

there are simply far more wrestling judo guys then there are bjj guys wich makes it seem more easy for the first group to switch but it is just that in those sports there is more talent (more practioners=more talent)
i think it is just as hard to switch in any way
