This morning in Tales From Recovery.

A number of times since rehab I have dreamed about falling off the wagon. This is accompanied by extreme guilt followed by extreme relief when I wake up and realize it was just a dream. Last night I had a long and very vivid dream about being on a cruise ship. My wife and I have been on several cruises and the level of consumption was pretty epic.

In the dream I spent a lot of time looking at those bars and having a sense of knowing that I could get away with getting drunk and when I got back home no one would know. Despite this I didn't touch a drop.

I don't know what kind of milestone this represents but I'm marking this one down as a big fat W.

Any tips on staying sober at professional drinking functions? Particularly in a profession where high alcohol consumption is the norm?

this is really one of the greatest music videos of all time and youtube ruins it by uploading the edited version.

I only buy the 100% real Canadian stuff.
I don’t find that odd, Americans are fed high fructose corn syrup from birth. It would not surprise me one bit they prefer the fake syrup to natural real maple syrup.
I think a lot of americans don't read labels and grab the cheapest on the shelves.

This is by far the best I've ever tried.

I didn't know that. The real kind is just too strong and too thin . I do think we grow up on it. I don't think I had the real kind till I was in high-school. I like maple sugar and maple donuts I just don't like maple syrup very much.

I think I've seen @Trotsky say he likes the fake kind better as well if I recall but I didn't know it was common

I only said that I really like the generic "butter flavored" stuff.

I actually am not sure that I've ever had real maple syrup. Growing up, I just assumed that Ms. Buttersworth, Aunt Jemima, etc. were real maple syrup.

Real maple syrup is pretty expensive, i think that plays a big part in most people not using it.

Kind and clear remainder that Diaz is firmly an average fighter, and an entitled little bitch who whines and cries till he gets undeserving title shots and big fights.

I can share what has been working for me, but I should preface this by saying that I don't struggle as much with social drinking. I struggle to drive past the ABC store on the way home after a shit day rather than grab a pint and spend the night drinking alone and reaching solitary oblivion.

In professional situations I like to think of every drink I see someone take as being to my advantage. I've found out that I quite enjoy being the most clear-headed and focused dude in the room. I tend to be an introvert but I've made conscious decisions to be active in conversation and observe how I can steer and manipulate the exchanges when I'm sober and everyone else isn't* and I'm not going to lie, it's kind of a rush to see how easy it is. Writing this out it seems kind of borderline sociopathic but making a bit of a game of it has kept me entertained and taken my mind off that nice tall frosty cold one being consumed within arms reach.

As luck would have it I have a meeting with new clients in a few hours and I'm sure alcohol will be involved. More reports to follow.

*Edited for clarity.

In my experiences there are no tips and tricks. You just don't do it. Alcoholism is pretty common in my field so when ever we go out as a crew I know there will always be one guy who cracks a joke about me but that's it. I just order my Coca-Cola and I enjoy the company of my friends.

We subsidize corn so we can make HFCS so corporations can make junk for cheap in order to expand their profits so our population can eat convenient shitty food so they can get a quick dopamine hit so they will be distracted from their fat miserable lives

God Bless America
