"Communist" itself is a blanket term. "Marxist" is a very specific ideology. Then you have Marxist-Leninists, Leninst-Maoists, and so on and so forth.

Then you have Anarchists, who historically have beefed with Communists, but that's died down a bit. There are even Anarcho-Communists.

Just like every ideology, there are branches. Stuff like "Conservative" and "Liberal" are blanket terms, and the vast majority of people refuse to read a book and understand their own ideologies. It's very shallow.

Trump kind of did that. Shutting down non-white immigration, UHC, raising taxes on the rich, plundering other countries, and committing war crimes are all policies that he ran on. The hard part is not Republicans attracting voters with promises on policy, but crafting workable policy that is both popular and that they're willing to actually execute. I think the difficulty of that challenge is behind both the authoritarian turn in the party and the constant lies.

Conservatives pretending there is a such thing as a Marxist that protect the markets is my new favorite thing.

Socialism is compatible with markets, though (see Norway, for example--huge SWFs and lots of public land ownership, but also very free markets), plus socialist parties can exist in countries where they don't have full control and can thus only implement part of their agenda.

Market socialism is a perfectly fine ideology and likely the closest middle ground we could realistically end up with. The purest form of socialism is a transitional step toward the ousting of capital.

And the DSA has done a decent job of bringing forward better and more progressive candidates. My ideology is just further left, which you know (and lambast me for) so I don't tolerate politically illiterate takes from reactionary conservatives.
