Thanks for these. All I meant to say in the other thread was that the common interpretation of inflation might not be in line with the technical metric, so when people connect a political headline (heavy stimulus) to their personal experience (rising gas prices) that could end up being their interpretation. A bunch of companies explicitly disclosing plans to raise prices probably muddied the waters too.

All I know is I keep hearing about lumber and it even made its way into one of Noah's recent posts lol.

I think it's a mix. Definitely for Joe Sixpack, the "inflation = at-the-pump gas prices" thing has some weight. The lumber thing is more about hackery, IMO. The other party is in power and things are going well so people are scraping to find something to complain about.

And speaking of hearing about things I just left the house to check the mail and my 70-year old neighbour who I've rarely talked to asked me if I was following Israel-Palestine! "You should watch the news because stuff over there affects us here too!" lmao.

I told her shit was getting people banned but I'm not sure she understood.

Yeah, deep breaths and looking away from the screen would be a start. Perhaps political discussions should take a back seat to dealing with personal demons too, if a person is afflicted with such.

That's a great big yes from me. I got out of rehab about 8 months ago and I've made a very conscious effort to avoid negative interactions or to start throwing insults. This has led to me walking away from the computer more than once. On the negative side my posting since rehab is perhaps more shallow or flippant than it could be and not comprehensively representative of my personality but for now I'll take the tradeoff.

My post the other day about immigration (I believe this is an important issue to you(?)) was about as "serious" as I've been getting and I even ended that with a wisecrack to lighten the tone.

As to SDW I'm with most people here in that I recognize his positive qualities and hope as time goes by he learns to let go of at least some of the anger and perhaps returns. Sometimes we all need a brisk walk, his just might need to be a longer one than most.
