Well yeah in regards to the FBI Director thing it’s a 10 year appointment. So GWB appointed one and now Trump has. Obama never got to appoint a FBI Director, that was just as an example. Despite what a liberal deep state hotbed the FBI is there has never been a democrat appointed as Director.

Anyway, I’m not trying to argue that there isn’t disparate treatment (obviously), or that racial and political factors don’t play into that at all. But that there’s a really complicated reason for those disparate treatments and simply pointing to two incidents that aren’t comparable isn’t really proof of anything. And also one of the Bundy guys was shot and killed. And many conservatives raised a stink about it.

One thing you get used to in law enforcement is that everyone will complain about how you do the job, even if it’s not you doing the job. It’s either too harsh or too soft or whatever. Humans aren’t perfect and neither are any of our systems.

But dude, we're not talking about isolated incidents, we're talking about a pattern of behavior here. BLM 2020, BLM 2013, Occupy in all its forms, Labor Unions, Gay Rights Organizations, the Black Panthers, Kent State protests, the Civil Rights Movement, seriously i'm getting tired of naming all the left wing movements stomped out by the police while stupid fucks like the Bundys and Proud Boys get photo ops and apple slices.

Know what i'm seeing? A pattern of behavior. If it's such a pervasive issue that it persists through decades and multiple directors, it's an issue with the organization, and that organization needs to be burnt down. Salt the fucking earth. Don't even leave a headstone. The frustration that ends in slogans like "ACAB" and "Defund the Police" stems from exactly what we're talking about right now. And people aren't going to accept "Well that was the last guy" as an answer anymore. ESPECIALLY after today. I'll be amazed if abolishing the police wholesale isn't a popular opinion after today.

Ok but my organization didn’t have anything to do with literally any of those incidents you named. So I’m not sure how I’m culpable, even tangentially.

But anyway I’m off on my little island not really even too connected to what’s going on today. Maybe it’s a big enough deal we’ll get our sovereignty back, idk. I hope you all stay safe and get what you want out of it.

edit: My only initial point I was trying to make is you can’t compare a stand-off situation to a more fluid riot or protest situation. The response will never be the same by law enforcement. That’s why I brought up the stand-off situation on Alcatraz. Those are always protracted situations when compared to more active protests.

That’s pretty weird man, come join me.

I guess. I'd much rather work 8 hours shifts and only have 2 days off per week though.
My current schedule is the best I’ve ever worked. I get 7 full days off every 3 weeks. It can be rough leading up to the days off but with strategic book offs aka paid sick days and vacation it’s fine.

Lol it’s never just 8 hours. The days are always long, you’re held back for forced OT, you’re doing doubles... that’s why.

And you're right, it's an unfair collectivization. For you, personally. I believe that good men and women are out there doing their absolute damndest to provide the best service possible to the people that they police. But at scale, those people's efforts mean dick. And that's my problem.

I want to make one thing abundantly clear. At the individual level, I have no issues with law enforcement. You and I are talking right now, and though I admit i'm passionate about the issue, i'd like to think that there's been no anger exchanged between us. I'm not irrational, I know you have nothing to do with the FBI. But when you get to the 10,000ft view of policing, it starts to get scary as shit. From the adversarial training programs, to the federal guidance (or lack thereof in many cases), to the absolute top down militarization of police forces nationwide. At narrower scopes, we see a lack of accountability from good cops when they see impropriety going down, which is a tacit acceptance of it. It's the scale of it that puts me against policing the occupation. Add in historical reference and it's just rage porn at that point.

For one to reform, there has to be an acceptance on both sides that reform needs to happen, or there needs to be a really big fucking stick in someones hand to mandate compliance. Whether that takes the form of liability insurance or draining coffers entirely is up for debate, but we're at the point where people are looking for the big fucking stick because police at scale think everything is okay. My sincere apologies that that includes you, because I really have no ill will toward you. But that 1/100'th of you that's cop is going to get some undeserved heat from some really pissed people in the coming days.

Lol well if you I can’t stand the heat get out of the kitchen, right? I’m used to it my man, and I certainly don’t take anything you say personally. Hell, I totally empathize with where you’re coming from with much of your complaints. No anger at all.

But the job has been good to me, and I think it’s a necessary one. Whether it’s noble or not depends on the individual, like anything. I made it though. I’m in my top floor office right now looking out the window and can see my homeland from mauka to makai. There’s sirens going off screeching down Wailuku town to Kahului where cops, EMTs and fire are doing the real work that needs to be done.

I've blown my like load on Falsedawn's posts today.

Aside from your hobby of perp tossing for distance (I don’t know it for a fact, but I still know it’s true), I think you’re alright for a cop.
