Social WR Lounge 243: Can you make threads while yellow?

1000 posts per thread doesn't give me enough time to work myself up to make a new thread.

Yeah, but what brought that up was this:

"1) do you believe in CRT?

2) do you believe only white people can be racist?

3) do you believe in Defund the police?

4) do you kneecap your own opinions and start off by saying, "as a white Cis-gender male..."

5) Do you pay heed to Ibram Kendi or Robin D'Angelo?

6) do you believe Asians benefit from "white privilege?"

I think the first question is really too simplistic to even count (just so happens that Matt Yglesias did a good, detailed take on the issue today). The second also really should be clarified, but if you just ask people to apply their own preferred definition, I think you'll get overwhelming "no" answers from the left, and I think the other questions also would get overwhelmingly "no" answers, particularly if you cleaned them up (provided more description). But the impression I got was that you expected dramatically more "yes" answers than you'd actually see. If there were one person on the planet who sincerely answered yes to everything (given your understanding of the questions), Breitbart would probably cover him around the clock, and rightists would think that thon's everywhere.

this was created on the fly...not a concrete, full proof test...but rather a litmus test.

Imagine trying to dunk on someone for having an education.

"Ay dood, you STUDIED! GOT EM!" <Lmaoo><Lmaoo><Lmaoo>

So does your inferiority complex stem from your lack of educational opportunity or your extra chromosomes from the dog?

I do love that state legislatures banning CRT is not akin to book burning but the Dr. Seuss Estate not printing more of their own books is akin to book burning

Sure, don't take it as an attack or something. I'm just saying that I think that if you give people a chance and really listen to what they're saying, you'll find that the image you have of a representative leftist/liberal is wrong, basically describes a few activists on Twitter and almost no one in the real world (and, I think, literally no WR regulars).

Oh I have....some people I have been wrong about. (already acknowleged one here in the past couple pages)

some are just impervious or repulsed by simple, direct questions as to where they stand on their issues.

a perfect example is that Transgender thread I showed you, where I asked Andy Capp, direct, honest, in good faith questions as to where he stood.

he took the route of outrage and being indignant.

regarding that litmus test from earlier, it provides me a glimpse of what one's reality is.

if we don't have the same shared sense of reality, conversation is almost pointless. it would be like discussing astronomy with a flat earther.

I don't think there's a real principled objection from the right to shutting down speech. It's just a convenient hammer. Reminds me of when Ben Carson was saying that believing in climate change was "political correctness."
