For many years now, I keep hearing people say that America should be run more like the ones in Europe. That the countries over there are run so much better. I've always been interested in trying to figure out what country America should try to copy. About 10 years or so, I've started to see videos and read articles that they got their own very serious problems over there. Some have to increase retirement age because they're out of money. I just read an article about the rich people in Switzerland moving out because of the high taxes. Also the migrant crime now that they can't even have Christmas celebrations without anti tank barriers.

So, I've been trying to figure out what place has the best system that America can try to copy and I've come up with Singapore. But it's hard to say if its left wing or right wings. They have social welfare policies but are also extremely harsh on crime.

This Swiss girl moved there and explains what makes it better than her home country, which is often touted as one of the best in the world.

I know that it fucking sucks. Its easily the most lacking in character country I've ever been to, a sterile, expensive (albeit very safe....too safe, maybe) authoritarian place. It's okay for 24-48hrs maximum, the airport is amazing though.

Singapore is wonderful. They have managed to merge the concepts of both taking care of everyone and taking shit from no one. They believe in promoting harmony even if it means limiting some freedoms. Don't like a particular race, or prefer just sticking with your 'own kind'. Too fucking bad if you live in Singapore. Their EIP (Ethnic Integration policy) has racial quotas in their public housing to prevent racial enclaves. I fucking love it.

Singapore was semi authoritarian with how they enforce laws. It's hard to judge whether you would consider it left or right wing.

I personally love it. To me it’s what I envision the future to look like. Super clean, plenty of green areas, nice food, etc. Highlight was the zoo and night safari.

the best city I've visited bar none. Extremely clean and multicultural as fuck so you can get brutal food. Also very advanced (architecture \ public transport) and safe.
it even has great nature (rain forests, beaches). Lots to see and experience in that city.

Biggest downside is that they are very against drugs - death penalty is in effect there if they find drugs on you (even weed..). Motherfuckers dont fuck about. Motherfuckers even penalize you for importing chewing gums into the country lol.

But despite that I wouldn't mind living there.

I lived in Singapore as a kid, and I thought it was great. The education system was a good mix of Western style curriculum with Eastern style discipline. We had room for creativity but were also good at math.

It's not a place I would live in as an adult now. That said Singapore is a great international success story. It shows that with authoritarianism is not necessarily a bad thing if the leaders are actually working for the people.

In 60 years since founding it transformed from a shithole that Malaysia didn't even want to one of the richest countries in the world with a pretty decent social safety net, low crime rate and a business friendly environment. It was able to solve housing issue and racism basically at the same time with HDB apartment blocks and the requirement for racial quota, so people of all ethnic groups are living together (so we hated everyone equally). On the other hand it did create a strong sense of nationalism that could be positive or negative depending on your POV. Stuff like that could really only be accomplished with a benevolent authoritarian government that has a long range vision, effective bureaucrats and a small population to manage

It has been a while though since I lived there, and I'm curious to hear Singaporean's view on current Singapore and if the one party authoritarian PAP rule is good for Singapore going forward

It's a mega rich small country. They could be run by Yager the ogre king and they'd be fine.

Mostly right wing but have some progressive stuff.

Highly capitalistic, business and profitmaking rules over everything over there. However, the state isn't completely absent and does take care of people. They have a great government-run healthcare system and the state also owns something like 95% of all land.

The extremely authoritarian society is a giant turnoff for me, though. They're like Saudi Arabia minus the religious shit. Fuck that. I'd take a little dirt on the streets if it means people are more genuine and not a bunch of robots.

That said, they're a city-state with almost half of their population foreign-born so they're not a model for any actual country except other micro states and oil states.
