Would you respect Jones more if he fought Pavlovich and got knocked out, or if he retires without

I'd respect him more for taking on Pav and losing more than retiring after beating Stipe. I will respect the shit out of his career no matter what he chooses though, even if I can't stand the guy.

I honestly don't give a fuck about him fighting Sergei at this point. He's been on top for so long he can retire whenever he wants. There's always going to be someone out there that the fans say is a challenge to Jones.

If he beats Sergei people will be calling for him to fight the next threat before he retires or he's a "duck".

Despite what anyone says, if your name isn’t Fedor, you lose steam from getting knocked out.

so I think just easy sweep, take out stipe and retire

edit: look at Aldo

I don't care he can do as he likes.
I would respect it if he also fought Pavlovich. First he would have to come out on top vs Stipe

It would be better for his legacy if he skipped out and left. There would be questions whether he could beat Pavlovich and people wouldn't assume he was just ducking.

1. He beats Stipe then retires, without wanting to face Pavlovich. He acknowledges he is getting old, and does not want to risk his legacy by taking on a dangerous contender without much reward.

2. He beats Stipe. Bravely calls out Pavlovich and they fight. He puts up a decent fight, but gets knocked out.

Taking on either NG or Pav would make Jones undisputed GOAT. If he stops after beating Stipe... then we can speculate but he's probably still teh worthy of being called undisputed GOAT imo.

Jones is crafty AF. If he's beyond his prime, then he should retire before getting concussed.

I would respect him more if he fought him. Balls of steel. If he won and retired nobody would be able to question a damn thing about him other than his roiding. The bragging rights would be insane.
He'll never hear the end of it if he leaves without fighting Pav either.

The problem is that Pav just set the record for consecutive first round knockouts with 6 wins in a row with a career defining performance against the best wrestler in the division.

This puts Jon in a very awkward predicament because it's absolutely clear who he should fight next (not the 40 year old who we last saw nearly get killed by Francis nearly 3 years ago).

Fighters and the media are already saying Pav is going to beat Jon.
Lol its way too soon to know if Pav is just a flash in the pan or championship material. If Pav wins 5 titles I’m sure people will say Jon ducked him, but if he loses his next fight no one will even consider it. Fans are fickle and full of revisionist history. Overall the smart thing to do for Jon is to fight Stipe and retire. Half this place was picking Gane to win, but now hes a bum that can’t grapple who is 1-2 in his last 3. Seriously the narrative changed over night.

Pav is no different and is a high risk low reward fight. If Jon wins he beat another bum who was never a champion, if he loses his legacy takes a huge hit. Not going to happen

If Jon beats Pav and Aspinall and then retires, Sherbros will claim he moved up to HW to duck the Jiri, Ank, Jan, Rakic, Walker, Hill, Alex and etc....

Jon getting respect from the obsessed haters... <Lmaoo>

If Jon beats Sergei, then the latter was never good and only beat washed-up has-beens. People here are pathologically incapable of being honest about him.
Exactly. Half of Sherdog went from picking Gane to win to calling him a bum who’s 1-2 in his last 3 and can’t grapple. Stipe does way more for Jons legacy, Jon already fought the younger contender and smoked him, time for a legacy fight.

Pavlovich gains Jon absolutely nothing. Lets pretend Jon beats Pavlovich, than Pavlovich becomes a bum. If Pavlovich keeps losing after Jones beats him “see I told you he was a bum!”. If Pavlovich keeps winning after Jones beats him “he wasn’t in his prime yet, never even touched a title at that point, Jon beat him before he was in his prime!”

No scenario where Jon comes out further ahead than he would by beating Stipe.

Folks that say they would respect his legacy more if he took fight just want to see fight. Much better for his legacy to beat Stipe an retire never having g lost in cage. Would make Jones a level of Goat that likely never gets challenged to fight all those killers n never lose.

Pav is a no reward fight . He wins Pav is just a number he loses and his zero is gone. The never been beaten is Bones greatest mark. I would love to watch but Bones be dumb taking fight.

After Stipe it's DC, Frank , or retire. OnlyvFrank and DC would be worth it at that point.

Jones has nothing left to prove

He's old and out of his prime, and still dominated a prospect like Gane.

Let him have his retirement fight against Stipe

This. He's done it all. I can completely understand his perspective in wanting to fight another legend, Miocic. I can't understand why he'd bother to fight some random HW that few had heard of and can't understand how that would affect his legacy at all. I do understand that his haters - and there are many - want him to keep fighting until he loses.

Nobody is really a Pavlovich fan. They are more of a Jones hater. If Jones beats him then it's Jailton or Aspinall is the real threat. The steroid cheat stuff will come out again. I get that Jones is a shit bag but most of the greats aren't good people. These guys are fighters. There is often very little martial arts spirit or philosophy in their lives. They fight half naked for money. Money is the end goal.
