And where does Yoel belong in all times chin?

but yeah I think his chin would be better for not cutting all that weight

Of course. Everyone's chin gets better when their craniums have more fluid to protect the brain.

I think he would do great at 205; he's always been great at nullifying his opponents' reach advantage and he would be even stronger and faster with better cardio. I know he lost to a juiced Feijao early in his career but his overall game, especially his striking defense, has improved significantly since then.

Kind of hard to imagine his chin being even better.

He ate a couple of flush head kicks like a sammich from Bobby knux.

You guys know he fought at LHW before, right?

And I'm not talking about his last two fights where he weighed in as a lhw, but fought middleweights.

My first thought would be that no...it would be the same. But after further thought, I question if he will be bigger than his opponents at LH. I feel he's generally 3-7lbs heavier (minus rockhold) than his opponents at MW. So I doubt he will be able to bulk heavy enough to cut and have that huge weight advantage. My reasoning behind this is simply the fact that he's struggled at each weight cut at MW and that leads me to believe he's heavier than his opponents on fight day.
If he was cutting down to 205...while fighting MW's that would be an absolute yes. But those guys at 205 hit harder than most at 185.

On a side note, I think yoel (given his age) needs to go up in weight class. Generally that's what most fighters do with age.

I've got a question. Given that Frank Mir, Reem, and others are showing a bad chin with age, is there room for it to get better? I know these guys used to have better chins. Or is it that once your chin has been cracked it's essentially easier to get KO'd regardless of lay-off between fights?

Yes, but don't forget he'll also be getting hit with harder strikes from bigger guys

hes got a good chin but nothing all time. The greatest chins dont get rocked until later in their career.

I remember watching that fight and going into it being really excited about how Yoel would do against a former champ. And then he just played around most of the fight, didn’t really engage. That highlight makes it look awesome though haha

i don't think he'll do that good at LHW to be honest.

he won't be able to take the 1st 2 rds off like he does at MW with some of the guys at LHW because they'll be hitting him a lot harder than the MWs do. the way he fought Rockhold and Whittaker the 2nd time, there's no way he'll be able to pull that off at LHW. at LHW he needs another wrinkle in his game, and that is the ability to stall the match with either wall n stall or some form of ground control.

you can't just stand in front of LHWs and use different blocks to rest. Gustafsson, Texeira, Latifi. all those guys will pick up on his inactivity and take advantage by just attacking him to either force him out of his shell and waste energy or to take a beating while trying to defend their onslaught.
