Not because he will lose to khabib but the fact that if he is smart he will get PPV points in his contract as a champion and make some huge money on mcgregors return and guaranteed 1m plus buys.

Now he could beat khabib then fight conor but why take the risk. Why risk the huge pay day.

He needs to hold out until mcgregor fights or vacates. Im sure his last paycheck will see him through for 6-7 months.

He's nutty enough to do it

And that's why I fucking love him

Of course. He'd lose to Khabib, and lose out on the Conor payday. But if Conor's not trying to fight him, then what risk is there? He has to fight khabib then.

Nah. On paper tony is tailormade to beat Khabib.

Sorry if u didnt get the memo mcgregor is

Yeah have the interim champ face someone other than the champ...

He's a UFC slave, he has no say on when or who he fights.

He should demand Conor until the UFC is forced to strip him (Conor). If he wants to make multi-millions of dollars... wait for Conor.

He should keep saying he is getting surgeries until Conor comes back

Yes, it would be a mistake. The only way to make the UFC take any kind of action in the LW situation, is to deny any other fight. With so many fighters refusing or demanding fights, an interim champ has some leverage but only if he doesn't budge at all. Ferguson has the mentality to be intrigued by fighting the best, challenging and proving himself but in this instance he should try to get this specific fight.

A guy with poor striking defense and average TDD is tailor made to beat khabib?

Dont get me wrong, he'll be khabib's toughest fight, but I dont think he's tailor made to beat khabib.

For Tony's sake I hope he fights Conor soon. He'll make money, and he deserves it.

I was thinking that Tony's great gas tank, activity on the ground, sub game and unorthodox attacks would give him a great chance to beat Khabib. After yesterday I'm less certain. Khabib kept up a good pace and seems very durable, and Tony is a slow starter - could easily see him lose the first few rounds.

No he doesn't.

We will see. If other fighters that are not champions can pick fights or refuse fights, Ferguson (who has an actual claim on getting the unifying fight) can refuse defending the interim belt. If he does fight it will be because he actually wants to fight or he believes that the "champion" won't return and will vacate shortly after.

Of course he can refuse. But he can't force the UFC give him a fight he wants.
And also the interim belt is fragile enough so UFC might just strip him
