No.
People like to proclaim new divisional GOATs too early. They did the same for Woodley then Usman at WW...even though they didn't come close to GSP's achievements. Then it was Israel at MW.The Izzy fans have erased this fight from their memory. It was an amazing fight. There is nothing to be embarrassed about. It’s just not a good look when you are trying to have this lofty praise such as goat striker in UFC. Really Izzy has only beaten 6 or so guys that are currently in the UFC. It’s not this super reign people try to act like. He is very good just not best ever.
And as others have said, it's a "styles make fights" thing. Costa matched up well against Romero (who doesn't do much leg kicking, isn't a pressure striker like Strickland nor a highly technical counterstriker like Israel, though he was still very dangerous). He had a more exciting win over Yoel than Izzy did, so people assumed he'd be a big challenge for Izzy. If Costa came in with a different gameplan vs. Izzy and was able to use his wrestling (maybe TDs after leg kicks?), maybe he could match up well with Izzy. I said "maybe" as I'm not sure. But Costa clearly didn't have a good gameplan and played right into Izzy's strengths.Costa have shit boxing and can check kicks to save his life, also he was scared shitless of Adeanya and he smelled it.
He might be "powerful" but he doesn't have the skills of Strickland
Out pointedCosta got beat up by Vettori...
Lots of debate about whether Sean's performance was more about him or Izzy's decline/gameplan.
I think we can all agree that the best Izzy we've seen was against Costa at UFC 253. He was truly "in the matrix" that night - his Anderson vs Forrest moment.
Would matrix Izzy beat philly shell Strickland?
My opinion is no, as I believe current Sean beats any version of Izzy
Strickland would beat the shit out of Costa, different level. Costa isn't that good and he was obviously not at his best against Izzy, with a shit or even a lack of any game plan. Izzy that beat Costa isn't that different from the Izzy against Sean.
Have to agree. Uriah Hall was giving Costa a lot of trouble with his jab, Strickland would just dog walk him with jabs.
Costa doesn't bring that big of a KO threat, and Strickland is really hard to hurt on the feet.Or get ko lol.

If youre banking on Strickland fighting stupid, you better up that to 6-10 at least.Different styles and motivation.
I could see Izzy beating Strickland but it would probably be 4/10 or 3/10 times. Strickland would have to make a mistake in his defense or fight stupid. Guys with Izzy's style need don't deal well with pressure. Combine that with Strickland's crazy defense and it's hard for him to beat.
"Matrix Izzy" already lost to Strickland.Lots of debate about whether Sean's performance was more about him or Izzy's decline/gameplan.
