Would the Audobahn work in America?

Fellow speed angels get in here.

I think it would be interesting. not saying every free way. but something like a toll freeway. Where if you pay you can go as fast as you frickin want. I am very comfortable driving my truck in excess of 100mph. So given a lower center of gravity vehicle I'm certain I would be comfortable driving 180-200 mph for short stretches of a few miles (5-10). what say you?

I could handle it and I know lots of other drivers could, but too many drivers out there can't avoid crashing with low speed limits. I think the highway would rapidly get cluttered with the wreckage of retards. But might be worth a try.
 
I don't know, but they did raise the speed limits on many freeways where I live recently. Some are up to 120 kph (75 mph). It's great.

The new philosophy seems to be be that it's not speed that kills. It's people driving DIFFERENT speeds that causes accidents. If you have some people doing 100 to stay legal, some 120 because that feels right and some people doing 140 cause they don't give a fuck, that's the problem. Hopefully the stats bear this out and the speeds stay higher.
 
Maybe it would even be safer with the high speed chases, because it wouldn't be in such a contrast with the rest of the traffic it normally is.

Completely agree.

I've had my doors blown off on I-45 and I was doing over 80 MPH. I think if it was a pay thing and I'm guessing the charge would have to be relatively high. just to keep people who just want to try it off three lanes

slow lane is a minimum of 85

middle lane minimum of 100

left lane no limit.
 
Over 70% of Autobahn Roads have speed limits nowadays.
And even those without speed limits require you to adapt your driving to weather and traffic conditions.
Autobahn=no speed limit is a myth at this point.

any body on here that's been stationed in Germany feel free to chime in. For me personally it takes a certain type of driver/mentality to even buy a Z06. That's not a car for the timid or weak at heart, or soccer mom. If you have the cajones to buy a machine with that much Horsepower imo you're going to respect it at the higher speeds. and not do something stupid as far as steering inputs that will disintegrate your car and end your life.

The faster I drive (though im extremely comfortable fast) the more I pay attention to steering inputs and what people are doing around me.
 
I think not. Motherfuckers here in STL can't even get up enough speed to merge off an exit, much less avoid getting smashed on a MPH-less freeway.

Lol no, all it means is you have money. Like the guys who managed to crash a Hellcat and McLaren within minutes of leaving the dealer.

Also speeders, or at least all the ones I've encountered in the wild, tend to drive recklessly with a hint of "IM INVINCIBLE".

I am Invincible esp when I'm driving my wife's minivan to soccer practice. I know id be the only minivan on the audobon doing 80+
