Everyone Ortega fights is terrified to go near the ground. Edgar wouldn't even clinch when he was hurt because he was worried about getting wrapped up in a guillotene.

yea khabib would maul him

Two things.

1) I don't believe Khabib is afraid of anyone.

2) I don't believe Khabib is afraid of anyone on the ground.

3) I don't believe Khabib can be beaten in his weight class.

...

Yes, it's three things.

Yes, Khabib is that good.

This is number one BS Khabib goes to the ground but the way he works top control he never seems to leave himself open for subs. He never lets people get comfortable in their guard whatsoever. Also he is bludgeoning them, not just laying on them.

He would def use the take down and maul he is so good at. He is not threatened by bjj as far as I can tell. His style is like anti bjj

Ortega would beat khabib up on the feet making khabib shoot for that takedown where his neck would get snatched up and he would go to sleep.

My 2 favorite fighters. But in a mixed martial arts fight, khabib pounds on his skull if he gets on top. But Ortega can strike with him and also avoid most takedowns because of his grappling prowess. My favorite hypothetical matchup right now.

He might not get a chance...

Ortega looks like a big featherweight, I think he could fight at 155, I think it would be an interesting match up, maybe a potential super fight in a year or 2?

Literally this.

Khabib SMASHES everyone from Lightweight, and down. Even Welterweights.

Ortega had the size advantage over Cub in that fight, and we all know Cub is good but not great on the ground like the likes of Edgar and Ortega.

If you've trained in MMA or BJJ/Sambo you would have witnessed bigger, stronger people at blue belt level tap out a purple or brown belt they outweigh by 30-50 pounds on a consistent basis (most sambo schools don't have belts IIRC).

My point is, despite looking lanky, Ortega has a strength advantage at 145 and regardless of his technique, Khabib is the stronger and more experienced grappler coming into this fight.

At least in the UFC, I have never witnessed someone even pull off a submission attempt on Khabib that was threatening.

If I was his team this would be my approach:

Rounds 1-2 keep it standing and feint the takedown or even secure the takedown. After this point, the guys will be sweaty enough to severely reduce the possibility of someone locking on a submission.

Rounds 3-5 take him down at will and deliver precise, controlled ground and pound as Khabib is known for.

Khabib by UD or corner retirement.
