Would Charles Oliveira have the same level of success at Welterweight?

15 lbs is a huge jump. The guys are that much bigger pkus they can handle bigger cuts because they are just bigger. It would be a daunting task fir any fighter and I dont think he has it.

To do something like this takes otherworldly skills. GSP, Khabib, Spider, Bones, Macgregor, and I think he has improved but has shown he doesnt have that level of skill.

Someone like Usman or Covington is not going to get in Oliveira's guard, they're going to use their size and wrestling to keep it standing
He has the stand up to hang with both of them in my opinion.

Highly doubt it. He has a good shot at winning the belt at LW but I would give him a very remote chance of beating Usman etc.

It's hard to see either Usman and Colby lose, unless they if they fight each other

Usman and colby would be able to keep him on the feet and most likely out strike, muscle hle him. That said Charles stand up has improved greatly
Do Bronx is clearly a better striker than Colby

Fucking monsters at WW cutting from waay heavier. Charles would get rag-dolled there at the top. I bet he could snatch subs from guys that are far lower ranked however cause he’s so polished right now.

Charles made feather weight so I find it hard to believe his skills will transfer all the way to 170.
I would rate Burns as better overall than Oliviera, definitely more capable of going to the well and infinitely less likely to succumb to a submission, and since Burns moved from 155 to 170, that’s the closest comparison we have.

Seeing how huge Charles was against Ferguson got me thinking about how he would do at Welterweight.
He seems to be a lot stronger at higher weight classes compared to his previous lower weight class.
I think he would definitely scare some fools into submission.

If Demian Maia could go far in that division with his aggressive jiu-jitsu, then Charles would absolutely dominate.

What do you think?

It would be fun to see DuBronx against Wonderboy & Pettis (again) & Masvidal.... But I think Kamaru and Covington (to a lesser extent) would be too much even fore him...

But you never know... Look what Grandpa Maia did to NCAA Askren.

Well he's huge for a Lightweight.
I see him following the same path as Gilbert Burns, Raphael Dos Anjos, Michael Chiesa.
They all fought at Lightweight before moving up.
He doesn't have a problem making 155. Being huge for the division you comfortably make weight for is a good thing.

You can not compare Maia and Oliveira, seriously?
Levels between them on the ground.

He has the stand up to hang with both of them in my opinion.

The idea wrestlers will be easily able to avoid the ground with a BJJ guy as well is I think also quite questionable.

Theres a big difference between outwrestling someone including taking them down and just avoiding the ground entirely which tends to need more in the way of controlling distance and timing your striking.

Technically, sure, but so was RDA. Colby's pressure is what swings fights in his favor more often than not.
RDA did win the majority of the exchanges on the feet though

Colby just fencefucked him for the win; Charles also hits harder than RDA.

I don’t think he would do very well

It's hard to see either Usman and Colby lose, unless they if they fight each other
Easy to see colby beat old washed fighters.
Don't get me wrong,as much of a WANKER he is he is a good fighter, but he lost when he was in there w a young lion. lawler and woodley were beyond done. Marty usman proved himself way more than colby has

the jump from lw to ww is a big one. I think hes in the perfect division for him after his 145 stint. and I think he has a good chance against anybody not named khabib.
I personally think he has a better chance against Khabib than he does against some of the other guys at the top of the division.
